I find kershaw to be the best in value. i really like pretty much all of their knives and they've got plenty of sub $30 options. I own something called the kershaw compound, i think i payed $15 and it's a hell of a knife, even if it doesn't get a lot of attention on the forums.

hey its not a popularity contest, all the knives i use arent talked about alot on the forums, im looking for good gifts and somethng to take my beater role

Bucklite Max line is pretty good working knives available in three sizes. The largest is about the size of a Buck 110, about 3 1/2" blade, frn handle, nonremovable pocket clip. I think they can be had for less than $25.

Tough to beat the Kershaw Crown. Sold at Walm*rt, I think it is about $ 15 bucks. Feels like $35.

I bought them at Christmas for $10 thanks to a tip here on the forum, and gave away two. They guys loved them, so I took one for myself, and it is a really nice knife. I have two left for emergency gifts, and wouldn't be a bit ashamed of giving one of these to anyone.

Buck Vantage Select
American made. Good size. Good value.

Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter
Simple, lightweight.

Kershaw Volt II
Assisted opening.

Ontario RAT 1
A tank. Right at the limit of your budget.

SanRenMu
Dirt cheap. Actually, I think dirt costs more than their knives. Will take a few weeks to receive (they usually ship from China).

Just did a review on the CRKT Ripple. Cool blade, $30 for IKBS and flipper opener, some QC issues on some, but otherwise pretty great. It's in the 'Knife Reviews' section if you want to see what it's like.

Check out the CRKT Drifter. Great little knife for about 20$ and if your willing to spend a few bucks more you can get the framelock version instead of the liner lock G10.

buck vantage select or spyderco tenacious would at the top of my list. excellent knives for the money.

for other good knives in your price range, check out kershaw, buck, byrd (spyderco), kabar.

pretty much any blade with 8cr14.
It's the chinese version of aus8, cheaper but performs just as good

The CRKT Drifter mentioned is an example

K55k and then attack a thumb stud. I add on a Niteize eClipse and it's one of my favorite knives.

At the really low price range, the Chinese manufacturers can't be beat. Knives like the Enlan El-01 and Sanrenmu 763 have surprisingly good quality and materials for the price point. They make a lot of knives that people consider "value knives" seem overpriced.

If you hunt around a little, you can find nicer knives that still fall under your budget. I got my Kershaw Shallot for $25 new, and I think you can get Skylines for under $30. If she's just going to knock this knife around and needs something durable, though, why not try a fixed blade? A Mora sounds perfect for that.

Ontario RAT1 built like a tank and will stand up to any abuse you throw at it. I am pretty amazed by the Kershaw Crown also which is more of a gents folder. Cant go wrong with either.

A basic Buck 110, <$30 at WallyWorld, is a heck of an American classic folder - and still made here. A bit hard to one-hand open as it comes, although some add thumbstuds.
