Sub-$300 Katana (2014 edition)

The elite line features blades in the Gomai, Shihozume, and Soshu kitae styles and Dotanuki school. These are
among the most advanced lamination methods the Japanese produced, with Shihozume and Soshu kitae being the most rare.
Each blade is hand forged by a Master Smith who has obtained at least two of the three government awarded ranks. Ronin
Katana is the largest dealer of complex laminated blades in the world. The elites are one of a kind swords, so once they sell,
they are gone for good. This line is only forged once per year. Each katana offered is an in stock sword and are not pre-sale items.

Did you read this off their site? Holy shit...

I remember looking at and researching Cheness Cutlery a while back they seem to be pretty good. Anyone have any hands-on experience with them?

It was a young maple. Mind you I only hit a small branch with it to knock it out of the way. Did zero damage to the tree. The front of the bokken flew past my face when it broke.

Cheness, I've never tried one I heard mixed reviews, so I don't know. I wouldn't mind trying one, they seem good.

I should be selling one of my guitars tomorrow, so if that works out then I might order one of the kat's we've been talking about. It's too hard too decide, that's why I hang out on here and see what everyone else uses.

I am a novice, speaking from a position of no experience whatsoever. But, through my own research, and reading reviews, and watching various videos, the general consensus out there is mixed at best. Some love their products and swear by them, while others swear AT them. You could- 1. Check out some of the other threads on here, there may be a "Cheness" thread. 2. Start your own thread, forumites will be happy to chime in, I am sure. 3. Start on page #1 of this thread and read through it, there is some VALUABLE information, and we have actually discussed Cheness.

I want a ronin elite, but I want to try the Dynasty...

You are the fuckin man in here! I am so thankful that I met you on here. Picking up a katana from all the best manufacturers? That is TOO damn cool. Like I have told you before, you are an asset to this forum. You should receive an honorary platinum membership. :)

Which Elite model do you like Scotty, I'd like you to chime in. It's hard to navigate their site. I have to go by tsuba and then I might not like the color scheme. aaahhhh it's driving me nuts

I should get a platinum membership then I could sell stuff here lol. Maybe sometime you can come chill up here. Wait till I get a few more katanas then you can try a good variety.

What is your price range? What do you plan on using it for? For me personally, as far as Cheness goes, I liked the "Tenchi" overall. The "Kaze" was a close 2nd.

I like the tenchi as well. I'm a little shy to get one just yet. I like going through a u.s dealer, so if I have any issues I can exchange or return it.

Man, that is truly touching... But New York is way the hell up there! The farthest north I have been is New Jersey(for a TOOL concert). If I did go, I would probably get shanked for wearing all my Redskins gear... HAHA Anyway, I can't leave the state either... federal charges... Hopefully will be through my ordeal sometime mid-July.

There are so many! I do the same... scroll through till I see a tsuba I like, then I right click and "open in new tab." Once I get quite a few up there, I check em out for the fuchi-kashira and ito color and same color, as well as if it has a bo-hi. Just scrollin through them earlier, I seen a "Tomoe" tsuba that they had in stock still, but it had a black+white color scheme(not my favorite). Tomoe, wave, neat geometric pattern(like your #18), just some of the themes I like. Black same for sure. Red, black, or green ito, for me.

I live in the woods. I can't live near a city, I'm very old school. I live in a cabin and mind my business. I can't stand busy places or loud noises anymore. we even go as far as making our own sushi and other Japanese dishes.
