I don't find anything proprietary about the general design of the M16 (which IMO isn't a good knife.) The greatest similarity between the M16 and EVO is I wouldn't spend good money on either one.

this type of thing happens too much! You would think that with all the talented people out there ripping off designs wouldnt be so tolerated. I had a Lowes gift card and there was the Gerber vesion in the store. Made me not even get there multi tool. So I drove 40 miniuts where another Lowes carries Leatherman :thumbup: Sorry....if I see that a design is blatenly ripped off I have a hard time buying any of there products.

I carried my M16-13LE EDC for a good year then decided I needed a full plain edge to cut my rolls in half for lunch so I started searching ebay (they're only rolls) for something suitable.

I bought about six knives (seperately) and one happened to be the EVO. I didn't realise it at the time but when I got it I was surely shocked at how close in design it was to my beloved CRKT, but I carried for about two days then switched back (stuff the rolls).

The other day my knob of an apprentice admired my CRKT and I said I'd sort him out with something similar. I think I'll give him the EVO

BTW- I bought a gerber clutch mini tool after deciding that I needed one on my key ring and it was pretty cool. nice little tools.

the FIRST time I used the pliers function (very minor job) the FU**EN thing snapped off one jaw.

The only two Gerber products I own are a cheap pocket knife sharpener, and a multi-tool that I got back in '98.

I won't be buying another Gerber product any time soon.
