Recommendation? Suggestions for an overbuilt folder that feels powerful in hand?

If its the feeling when you hold it that you're looking for then it's about going to have to be your personal choice after handling knives.

If you're just meaning you want a bigger heavy sturdy built knife then from your list the Cold Steal maybe beat bang for the buck ... the Medford may just be what calls to you.

I would just reccomend have a look at the Hinderers and I'd throw in some ZT's ... maybe a 0550 if you find one used since its no longer produced ... the 0300 ... and my favorite the ZT 0909

Todd beg beggatti should do the job.

I know when I launch myself at a moving automobile to smash the windows, I too open the blade for no reason so that its pointed back at my face. I mean, if you are going to live dangerously, you might as well go all in right?

"Fwick". That made me laugh.

I'm probably in the minority here, but weight doesn't imbue "powerful" to me. Ergonomics do. So with that in mind I'd suggest a Manix! It's not really overbuilt, but it's ergo's are the best I've experienced so far.

The important thing is to scream "YEEEEEAAAAARRRGH!"

A knife that really feels powerful in hand is the electric carving knife that my dad uses to shred the turkey every Thanksgiving.

Welcome to BladeForums!

I am planning to buy an overbuilt folder that feels powerful when held. I recently picked up Medford Praetorian Ti owned by my friend and holy god it just filled me with a kind of strong feeling.

Thus, I am inclining towards 4-max/AD-10 or Medford as of now. Thank you for help.

It may earn you a bit of ribbing, but I don't think there's anything wrong with buying a knife because you like how holding it makes you feel. If that's what you want out of it, then cool.

I've never owned a 4-MAX or a Praetorian, but everything I've read about them suggests that you will probably be happy with either. If you have no option to handle them in advance, consider buying from a reputable dealer with a friendly return policy so that you can get one in-hand to see how it feels but still have the option of returning it.

Folks, a reminder that this is General Forum, not Whine and Cheese.
Go start a duplicate thread in Whine and Cheese if you feel the need.

I am planning to buy an overbuilt folder that feels powerful when held. I recently picked up Medford Praetorian Ti owned by my friend and holy god it just filled me with a kind of strong feeling. I then started browsing previous forums and came up with a list of folders.

Grayman DLC Satu Ti-Ti
Medford Praetorian Ti
Crusader Forge FIFP
Dalibor Bergam
William Woods Titan
Carson Tech Labs Evolution
Nocturnal Knives FFTS
DireWare Solo V4
Cold Steel 4 max
Extrema ratio rao 2
Demko AD-10

I am planning to buy only 1 knife so a bit relaxed on price. The blade should be thick and overall knife heavy. As I have no way to hold these knifes without actually buying one, please suggest which knife will be best for me.

I understand that some of customs have long waiting or are difficult to arrange. Thus, I am inclining towards 4-max/AD-10 or Medford as of now. Thank you for help.

Microtech stitch if you can legally own an automatic. I've owned custom demko, medfords, and a lot of other big heavy knives...... this one blew me away!

If looking for overbuilt, no need to look further than the brand that has "Overbuilt" printed right on the box. ;)

But seriously, I was very surprised by how much I fell in love with the ZT0456. I originally bought it because it looked a bit odd, and thought it would be fun to have around. But since, haven't found anything to knock it out of my pocket. Not really big overall, but stout and chunky. The handle is wide enough to get a solid handful grip. Blade is relatively thick for its size. And the blade rockets out with just about any flip style, giving a very satisfying "thwack" on lockup.

Recycled pic, but it's what I found quickly.

My zt 0562 is over built to the point where it's still pocket friendly. I wouldnt consider my spyderco military to be over built but it's still a large folder that feels great and gives you powerful cutting ability. Someone mentioned a manix. I have a manix 2 but i would think a manix xl would be more to your liking. My suggestion aren't medford over built but theyre just some other choices to think about

Hinderer XM-18 feels amazing in hand - if you want something larger... XM-24!

CS 4max - Honestly beats almost anything because it cuts like hell as well. As close as you'll get to an AD-10 without the price.
CS SR1 - Budget friendly, built like hell, feels like an affordable AD-10, bit thicker behind the edge so you'll want to re-profile to get decent cutting.
Demko AD-10 - Well, it's an AD-10, there's not much more that needs to be said here.

Everything else in the overall strength dept. is just a skinny guy wearing big shoulder pads. A knife is only as strong as it's weakest part, which is usually the lock in most modern "overbuilt" folders.

Go to a gym. After a while anything in your hand will feel powerful.

Giggity....

I would recommend either the Medford or a Direware....both are overbuilt and heavy. The dire ware with a full flat grind is actually an excellent performer.

In the end find a knife that feels good to you. I would recommend attending a knife show in order to handle several to see which you prefer.

Thank you all for suggestions. As of now, I am more into cold steel 4-max. It seems to be a beast.
