Suggestions on a knife for my sister

Hello, my sisters B-day is coming up and I’d like to get her something to replace her el cheapo Gerber folder she carries, (it‘s embarrassing to see her carry it around)
Anyway I’d like some suggestions on what I should get her, it doesn’t need to be flashy and I don’t see a reason to spend much over $40 (she doesn’t really have an appreciation for higher quality knives) so just something to get the job done.
I’m also looking for something that has thumb studs (no flippers or anything assisted), either a frame lock or liner lock, preferably washers, a 3.5” ish blade, and a decent steel, D2, 14c28n or something similar will be fine.
I was thinking maybe a QSP penguin but I don’t think she’ll like the sheepsfoot or the QSP parrot, but feel that I should get something a little more robust.

But anyway let me know what you think I should get her!

+1 on the Civivi Brazen. Beat me to it but it was gonna be my overall favorite pick..

QSP Hawk, $50 bucks but a solid one and done budget edc knife.

CJRB large feldspar, overhyped but still a good knife at $40 bucks

Ruike P801, 14c28n and frame lock for $30 bucks, I've had one a year or so. Damn good for the price..

Ontario Rat 1 or 2. They're like a 1999 Camry, old and boring but reliable...

All good suggestion, but most of these aren't what I'm looking for.

I have a feldspar and besides the bearings I would consider it for her. I also have a rat1 and have used a rat2, but I think the size difference is way to big, I think she would prefer something inbetween.

For only 40 bucks, I have to ask what model Gerber she has. Many older Gerbers were far better than most of today's 40 dollar knives.

Here it is...
This thing is a piece of junk, trash steel, lockup is completly slopy and the centering is so bad the blade is rubbing the scales

Kabar Dozier Design Folding Hunter in D2. Light, tough, easy carry, a very nice knife. It's not USA but it's not China either. Taiwan. I like mine. The Thumbstud is on the other side. Right in line with your budget. NOBODY will ever be embarassed to have this on them. It is back lock which I consider to be far and away superior to any liner lock. At that price point, I'm not coming up with any decent frame locks.

Edit: Clip and thumbstud are both reversible for left handed people.

Why not a back lock? Buck 112 Slim Select.

If she's carrying a cheapo Gerber, and you don't want to over do it, I'll second a similarly sized Ontario Rat in her favorite color, plus a SAK classic for her key ring in a design (or color) suited to her personality...
