Suggestions on a knife for my sister

Just that it takes two hands to close, and I don’t think that’s what she’s gonna want 🤷🏻‍♂️
I close back locks all the time with one hand. Just depress the lock with a finger or thumb of the hand holding the knife, then fold the knife closed with the spine against your thigh, table, arm whatever. No better or worse than a liner or frame lock. It really isn't a hard motion to learn.

If that's not what she wants, then for sure get her what she does.

Honestly I’m comfortable doing that, but I don’t think she’ll be.

To check all your boxes ... I'm not coming up with much off the top of my head that I have actually owned and have experience with. The Ontario Rat 2 popped to mind or the KaBar Dozier is a lockback but I operated it one handed just like a Delica.

If any of the checklist might be flexible at all you might find a good option on the exchange that is at a bit of a discount, but still looks and functions as new. Good luck in your search.

I hadn’t thought of this for some reason, thank you!

on the exchange Under individuals/folders you can find more modern folders, then under individuals/traditional folders you will find the classics styles.

Get her a Steel Will Intrigue. US firm, China made, D2 or M390, flipper, excellent fit/finish, excellent grind, two sizes. I've ahd one for a while, D2 is $30-50.

First and best suggestion hands down.

Nothing beats a Dragonfly 2 for a light weight compact pocket knife. Cuts way above its weight.

Also not made in China.

You can definitely close a Spyderco backlock one handed. The FRN models would be a good choice. I Iiked the dragonfly I had. Lightweight, well made, decent steel.

Depending on how stiff the spring is and how much gripping force she has... you can usually close any lockback one hand. Point the knife down, depress the backlock and press the spine sligthly against your leg. Now you reset your grip get your fingers away from he blade path and close the knife. And that's the "safe" way... you can also slight flick it close while depressing the lock with your thumb and stopping the blade (unsharpened ricasso area) with the index. I have just tried both methods with the Cold Steel Code 4 (spear point) which has a Triad Lock (stiffer than pretty much any other lockback out there).

The only knife I hasn't been able to (safely) close one handed... was the Cold Steel Pocket Bushman!

For only 40 bucks, I have to ask what model Gerber she has. Many older Gerbers were far better than most of today's 40 dollar knives.
Hard disagree homie, there are no Gerbers that ever competed with what Civivi puts out for $40

SOG flash...but costs around $75

edit: just noticed that this one is spring assisted..sorry OP

Ontario Rat 1 or 2 as mentioned by others already here. Thumb studs, liner lock, affordable.

Spyderco Tenacious. Could be had for maybe around $50-ish. I personally like the bigger brother, the Resilience.

Civivi Baklash. Not a thumbstud, but the flipper is really easy to operate once you have it down pat.

Most of the Paul knives were better than Civivi's, as were the Titanium Harsey Gerber knives.
