I wear a Tilley LTM6 wide-brim hat with mesh on the top to vent a bit more than most. Great hat!

I usually wear a boonie. They don't breathe very well though, but keep the sun off my head and neck and they feel good after soaking in water.

I'm planning on picking up a western-style straw hat for the summer whether its in the outdoors or around town.

I almost picked up REI explorer hat http://www.rei.com/product/734793 but opted for a cheaper one from my local surplus. When that one wears down, I'll get the REI. I tried it on in person and it feels great.

I wear a straw Wrangler cowboy hat until it's about 5 below. Then I switch to a toque until around 15-20 below, and then I go to a rabbit fur bomber. I love that bomber hat, it's probably the single most Canadian thing I own! Well, aside from my maple syrup stockpile (that's not a joke.)

While I do have a non-brand, nylon, khaki (light brown? beige?) wide-brimmed boonie-style hat, I tend to only wear it when I know I'm in for extended time in the sun. Otherwise, it's one of many ball caps. The boonie-style hat is great for shading the neck--I can feel the cooling effect as my sweat evaporates.
