You can also try the wiley x brand or the ess brand.. They are both wrap around and have the oakley style of frame.. Both brands are military specifications approved and are currently in use in afghanistan and iraq by the troops with boots on the ground..You can get a pair of the Ice 2X which come with both smoked grey and clear lenses for less than 80.00.. Wrap around design and I have used them for over 5 yrs with no problem.. You can also get prescription lens inserts from the factory when you send in your prescription to them.. They will fit the lenses to the frame and send them to you that way..

JTR, I hope you don't mind a bit of a highjack, and if you do let me know, and I'll delete this post. I don't want to step on toes, but I also don't want to open a redundant thread...

Has anyone tried Nike sunglasses? I usually wear Bolles but I'm going prescription and my optometrist, who I'm sticking with, doesn't carry them. He also has Oaks and Raybans, but the Oakleys are a little too out there for me, stylewise, and the Raybans seem a little too old fashioned. The Nike Brazen P reminded me the most of my beloved Bolles and fitted me the best, but I wanted to do a bit of research before I buy.

Thanks wintermute, not a highjack at all.I checked out some Nike's.They're pretty pricey, the ones I liked anyway.

I'm looking at different Ray Bans & Oakleys for the time being.

Thanks. I talked to my optician last night. Turns out another option is to have him make prescription lenses for my Bolles. Should save me a few bucks. I have to ask him if he can keep the ANSI Z87.1 rating so that I can use them for safety glasses at work, but I'm guessing no.

The only reason I don't like raybans is because of the weight. I used to wear the aviators and they'd leave two huge depressions in the bridge of my nose after an hour or two. I switched to Oakley Half Jackets, which I loved, but lost them in the ocean last year. When I went to Miami last fall I stopped into the Oakley store there and found a new model that I love - the Hijinx.

One of the problem I have with most sunglasses is that they predominantly come in black; the Hijinx model I got was a warm brown that doesn't "stand out" as much. Yeah, I know tactical black is all the rage with the mall ninjas, but I prefer the lower profile colors. Another plus was the more conventional shape, compared to the Xmen styling of the Juliets & Half Jackets and M-Frames. Anyhow, price was right, I had darker lenses put in, and I wear them daily.

Hey Spark, those Hijinx look great. How do they hold up to rough tough outdoor stuff? I'm guessing that the Lifestyle line is probably at least 90% as durable as the other Oakley stuff, but my main concern would be that there's no rubber nose piece - concerned about losing them when I get sweaty and look down.

They hold onto my face ok when I'm riding the motorcycle, and I was able to do IDPA with them no problem. Don't know about greco-roman wrestlin' though.

Haven't tried the Hijinx on, but the Monster dogs have a similar rubberless construction. They use the frame ergonomics to hold themselves in place, and even though you can hardly feel them they "lock" into place pretty well.

ray bans man, you cant go wrong with them, they have some new frames made of carbon fiber that are unbreakable

For optical quality go with Maui Jim. They're pricey but worth it. By far the best sunglasses I've ever owned.

I like Oakleys, a lot. I've owned about 8 pairs over the last 20 years. I had the old school M-Frames in high school, I have the Straight Jackets and the Half Jackets. Living in AZ, having quality sunglasses is kind of a requirement, too much UV radiation flying around everywhere (even on cloudy days). Aside from that my oakleys double as safety glasses when I am using a saw or grinding. Most others have the scuba goggle safety glasses. ;)
There is a site that sells military style Oakleys, they are not all mall ninja'd out, but they are a flat black (matte) finish. They look awesome.

Down here on the Gulf Coast Costa Del Mars outsell everything else, probably 10 to 1. They are excellent polarized lenses to fish or do just about anything in. Maui's are fairly popular down here too, but as mentioned, a little pricey. Oaks are around but just are'nt as popular with the beach/fishing crowd. The aviator styles have been making a comeback for some time now, particularly with the younger set.

Thinking about getting these.

Those are really nice JTR, they are super light. I've tried those at Sunglasshut, I was strapped for cash so I couldn't get them. I like the Oakley Pitboss and Gascan, although they might be too large for my face.
Edit: I like the red/fire iridium, and the black. The Red provides incredible clarity when driving in a car or on a motorcycle. the black is great for those super bright 110+ degree days.

I've had my pair of Oakley Square Wires (2.0...they had the spring hinges) for the past 8 or 9 years. They've held up amazingly well. I've also gotten a pair of prescription Oakley frames.

So yea, you have my recommendation.

Both of mine are like the ones below, but all black frames.
