Sunday Evening with Agni Jowla Sword

Honestly, my personal take on the situation is that if one needs a blade that badly they should put it on their credit card and make payments to the credit card company. Then this small business can be paid up front and not be burdened with the extra work of laying away the item and updating payments which she doesn't charge extra for. If it were up to me she would be tacking on a "service fee" for each item laid away and there would be penalty charges for late, slow or partial payments.

My 2 cents. I don't believe in layaway, never have. I pay everything in full.

I have asked some sellers to hold onto the items for a short determinate time, so that I could remit full payment. Ie, bought something on Wednesday, remit payment on Friday, which was my payday.

That's what I do and have done with auntie on a couple times where it was just a matter of days till I could pay.

Usually she rightly holds the knife and sends when the funds get there, that's the safest way.

She's been very helpful to me on these instances. I think she's starting to like me. (I hope) I think she likes everybody but I want to be # 1 ya know?

I do agree with Karda on this one, best to just pay with a card if you have to, that's what they are for aren't they.

A matter of days or maybe a week is one thing. But we have had a member or two that would claim a pile of knives and then want to make monthly payments on the lot. Auntie is a very gracious and understanding person, but these things should not be abused or taken for granted.

I normally just charge everything but then pay in full every month. But I send auntie personal payments so that she can avoid the PayPal fees

hey to each his own certainly, but HI would definitely be short a good small car's worth if this guy was against putting things on reserve, or paying a little at a time, I think a service fee is a fine idea for this sort of thing, as I make donations pretty consistently for that very reason ( I appreciate her holding a blade here and there, so when I pay I pay extra)-- but if there is a real problem with this, like many others I deal with , you could easily make it -- if you pay down then you do not follow through, you just lose your money down, and you do not get item.

also I do not own a gun, knife, car, tool etc that I bought outright; I like to spend that money, but only get paid so much each month, and luckily most people do not mind getting it a little at a time as long as they get it --especially when you retain the object until full payment is made, sounds like a win win for everyone :D; agree the paperwork and tracking of such things is a bother, but that is why a fee is a fine idea for retaining an object, just like room and board for your precious blade , while it eagerly awaits its new home!!!

think of it as rescuing orphan khuks ?

You might want to talk to Auntie about the personal payments. This has caused problems in the past and almost got her paypal closed. She prefers that paypal gets their due for using their service for goods.

money orders! I think these are really good if you can do them because the receiver gets cash and you pay the fees, kinda like gifting on paypal without worrying paypal will attack you

also I probably claim one or two piles of knives a month.-- so I know I am one of them bad ones ! :D , but seriously, it is a wavy sword, I would take payments on that , but understand your reason for not :D, should be a standing policy of higher charges for those kinds of orders, does not take much to make the paperwork worth the time.

That's the thing, my friend. It's only Auntie running things in Reno and having to keep tabs on Nepal with Pala who isn't getting any younger. Those two things alone are time consuming and difficult enough. add in special orders and other special requests like layaways and such....and then her personal things like caring for herself and loved ones and helping others as she does and there just isn't time. Money is poor replacement for health and lost time with family.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. I don't know how she does it and keeps going with a smile. We should be doing everything we can to make it as easy as possible for her.

yeah as long as I have been here, still never got a special order, even though it is what I came here to do lol, usually because the special order backlog is 3 miles long-- going to try again this summer ; hopefully will be ready to strike when the iron is hot !

I see both Gehazi and Kardas viewpoints. I think Gehazi hit the nail on the head with the "impulse" buy... We all have had a few of those, a couple days to pay is always appreciated and makes those amazing DOTD's more convenient.

Karda hit the nail on the head when he stresses that Auntie is a one woman show. We really need to make it as easy as possible for Auntie. I am agreement with Bawanna on this one. A few days to a week should be plenty of time to pay. The main goal should be payment the same day, but we all know life doesn't always work that way.

In all honesty....
I myself am fascinated by these Agni Jowla swords and their history. I want one very badly.
But, I cannot afford it at this time and wouldn't dream of asking Auntie to hold one for me, even though I know she probably would. It isn't fair to Auntie or the Kamis, who work terribly hard to make these things for sale and it isn't fair to my friends here who may wish to purchase it outright.
Just to be clear to everyone up front... when ordering items from Auntie, payment is expected in full at the time of purchase.

Some of us spend between $400-$800 a month at HI and I think those things are put into consideration by Auntie. I know I had a $700 bill a couple months ago, and $550 the month before that, I think it was close to 800 around xmas. That's the reason I see Gehazi's view point. People who contributed/buy items like that should be given special consideration, which we are! I know it's handled this way in my business as well as many others. People like us shouldn't be faulted because we don't have $600 on hand at that second. Most places over $250/400 are net 15, even in tiny companies. I have said my full and I will leave it at that. I don't put things on card, I always pay cash and it takes a little time to move money into certain accounts.

I see where you are coming from with this, I just spent over 900 dollars on khuks in the past week and Auntie is currently holding an AK Bowie for me because it had been sitting for quite some time and I was the only one to show interest in this particular knife, so situations like this are understandable.

Karda- what is the history of the agni jowla swords?

My dad heard this story from another Buddhist monk from Tibet and this is his story as he told it to me.
A long time ago, when people died in a village or elsewhere, they would come back from the dead and become
a zombie in the Sherpa and Tibetan understanding. They would be called Roplang Gakshi Garnu.
The zombie, Roplang, can’t bend down and has to walk straight up. To protect themselves from the zombies, the
people of the villages built their houses with small portholes for windows and doors built low to keep the zombies
out. I remember those portholes when I was growing up on our ranch. Today’s windows and doors are much different now.
When people died, a lama would put ropes around the dead person to prevent them from coming back and becoming
zombies. My father witnessed this process when he was a 7-year-old boy. My father told me that the belief was that
once people have been touched or bitten by a zombie, they would become an instant zombie.
Many years ago there was a large monastery, Gomba, in Tibet where 1000 lamas were in Gompa Pray retreat and
practicing Buddhist dharma. Among those lamas was one high lama considered the Leader Lama for the thousands
of other lamas in Gomba. One day the High Lama passed away from old age and the rest of the lamas had to keep
his deceased body for three days while they prayed all day and night without falling asleep.
The lamas kept praying both nights and, on the third night, they were all very tired from staying awake for two nights
and they fell asleep. While they were asleep, the dead High Lama became a Roplang zombie and touched the head
of each of the sleeping lamas with his bible domang pastu. They all became zombie Roplangs. There was a loud noise inside of
Gompa that attracted the guard outside and he came inside.
When the guard saw that all of the lamas had become Roplang zombies, he got frightened and closed the door to
protect himself. He went to see another powerful, High Lama, Jektan Mela Rewa, who rushed to the Gompa, carrying
his Agni Jowla Sword. He had all the dead lamas promise that they would not come back from death and become Roplang
again. After they all promised, he finished them off with his Agni Jowla Sword.
The Jowla sword was very powerful and he shot a fire flame that flowed out of the end of his sword and took care of all the
zombies. After Lama took care of Zombies then he burn down the Gomba. The Lama built a Kalo Dark Chorthan for all the deceased lamas and made them promise that they would not
become a problem again.

This sword is made in our HI shop by Rakjumar the (Prince ) Kami. Even though we do not have a zombie problem in today’s world,
it would be nice to have such a sword and this story in your collection. My father told me that this was a true happening in Tibet.

The picture of lama sword and zombie Lama below is from my father. The fire flame comes from tip of sword and shoots to
the zombie Lamas, killing them. Believe or not!

Yes, you are given considerations for spending money. It is her decision to do so on a case by case basis. Still, it is no reason to expect it or recommend that just anyone should ask her to do so. She has overhead and bills to pay also.

that is quite possibly the coolest sword story ever shared at HI, way better than yeti and bears-- we have zombies ; and not some bs zombies, we are talking old folklore cool type zombies-- love everything about it karda;

also alinct, this would be a really cool sword to start with, I think the first sword I got from HI was a manjushree with a similar grip, but no engravings and no wavy-similar price though and it is not a trash blade you are buying but real, high quality and hand made fair trade stuff; so it is definitely worth the price, even with it being 295- but I can tell you a sword by purna is going to be collectable, I have many blades by him and think he will be a very sought after kami in the future. I would definitely be picking this up if I did not have so many other obligations at the moment :D
