Sunglasses Recommendation from you guys

I stand corrected. There are 8 locations. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

As you see from the picture, there are 2 "levels" of stores. Some that are primarily Rx and some that are "gold level" dealers. Your closest gold level is in Myrtle Beach, but don't let that discourage you; the first three dealers I went to were Rx dealers. They still have a big selection. I did end up driving to Wilmington NC (to a gold level dealer) to get them. The Rx dealers had 15 or so pair, the gold level place had 50 or more - but mostly repeats.

Marthinus, after an experience like that, I'd pay $400 for the glasses if I had to. From what I've discovered in the game of sunglasses, the less expensive ones typically make the best safety glasses; that is, clarity, weight and polarization don't matter as much. Plus, the less expensive lense material (polycarbonate) is by far the most impact and shatter resistant.

Maybe this will help...

Here's a comparison between a Costa 580 glass, blue mirror lense and the Kaenon's c12 lenses. The lenses are not the same tent (obviously) so that makes an apples to apples comparison impossible, and the copper tent is something you either love or hate. I will add that EVERY style Kaenon makes comes in a grey tent - similar to the grey Costa's pictured here. But I chose the copper because (1) I already own these Costa's in grey, and (2) the copper is better for where I fish and for driving. You'll see in the pictures how the copper tent really amplifies reds and yellows (like in the sunset) Anyway, hope this is helpful. And if you don't like the copper and love the grey, don't let this picture put you off. Remember, you can get the Kaenon's in the same grey if you'd like.

One last thing, SURELY you all know that I’m not trying to compare clarity and sharpness. That’s impossible with a camera phone, out my front door, in the rain. Trust me, the Kaenon’s are clearer. I’ve been wearing these 580G’s for two years (plus I wouldn’t lie)

I went to a Palmetto Moon yesterday and they had about 30 of them. I am lucky I guess. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try any on, I was in a huge rush and was walking by the store.

Costa Del Mar 580's in green. They are actually green reflective over amber lenses. They are the only glasses that "relax" my eyes. You can wear them on sunny days, rain, cloudy, and the will enhance what you see. Try them out and you will see for yourself.

Good call on the Kaenons. My Mauis are for every day use but for fishing I have a pair of Kaenon Rhinos that I wear exclusively

I wear Revision Sawfly but only because they were free. Love Oakley, wore them for about 18 years but after being domesticated just don't have as much money to spend on myself.

I really depends on your budget. I personally like Ray-Ban aviators ($150). Own a dozen pairs myself. Don't skimp on polarization. It's def worth the extra $50. So $200 for a pair of polarized aviators. It gives a much sharper image since it eliminates glare.

I choose rather iconic frame styles so that they don't look dated after a few seasons such as aviator, clubmaster, wayfarers. I have had the same pair of aviators for 13 years and people still ask if they're new...

If you want a super basic pair of sunglasses that are still polarized, you can get a pair of Warby Parkers. They are a new brand that came out last year in June. Polarized, acetate frame, multiple colors all for $100. Just google "Warby Parker" and the site should pop up.

Just like with knives, you can go super detailed with the right amount of discernment; you will start being picky with lens and frame material, coatings, shape, designer, exclusivity, haha.....

My personal preference is Oakley. MADE IN USA, good materials, thoughtful hinge design, GREAT lenses & relatively affordable. They also have a lot of great styles. Maui Jim is also a great brand. One thing to know though is that some Maui Jim's (IMO the best ones) are made by Titanium Air, which also makes some Serengetis... Very similar but cheaper. I've had at least ten pairs of Oakleys, and I would say that they work best for me. O-Matter frames are my preference. Current fave are the Holbrooks.

I'd like to personally thank all the sunglasses experts here in persuading me to drop a couple bills of knife money, into sunglasses money...Maui Jim's are on the way...

Let's please stay on topic....CRK:p

I went to "Dick's sporting goods" and tried on about 6-7 different pairs. The "Peahi" fit me perfect. They didn't have the one i wanted, so i came home and ordered the matte black/HCL bronze:thumbup:

I just got some Ray Bans and they are AWESOMe. They are the RB8301. The have polarized crystal lenses and carbon fiber arms. Optical quality is great and the carbon fiber is light, flexible, and attractive! :)

Those are the EXACT same MJ's I have. I just bought a second pair(exactly the same). They are great sunglasses and makes you eyes relax on cloudy days and sunny days.

Not a big name here (at least I don't hear it thrown around), but Serengeti make some great glasses. Up until I tried some Serengeti I was sold on Maui Jim, but I don't think I'll be getting more MJs.
