Super Gladius?!

Regular Gladius
usually 2feet overall length.
Blade around 19 inch.
Width 3 inch (smaller than in movies )
Balance point 2.5 - 4 inch from guard.

Romans also had longer cavalry swords but they weren't called Gladius.

Thanks Jens, but I have a Busse Gladius already and was just looking for the difference in blade length between the Super Gladius and the original model

I modeled it for Eric, but was not the buyer. I'm certainly no sword expert, but this one struck me as an SWO, not a well-balanced tool. Same for the Butaniku.

They do look cool, though.

That's such a great photo! Lucky you got a chance to hold that monster Gladius as well

Pardon my ignorance but what is a "SWO" are you basically saying it's too blade heavy to be anything other than a monster chopper?

Seems like it would need more substantial fullers and a longer, wider handle, if not also some tapering to get close to being a well-balanced sword....but i don't know much about swords either.

What an awesome sword though! Congrats to the buyer!

Glad to see KC was such a great time for you all :)

It would not be a very effective cutter/chopper. Clean lines and all but just not very sharp. Something the ultimate collector would mantle above the fire place. Now those sr77 protos, yowza! They will kick so much arss in the user dept no doubt.

I don't want to speak for resinguy, but I've seen the similar acronym SLO, or "sword-like object" used by some of the folks on Sword Forums. I took it to mean something similar....maybe "sword wall object". Point being that it wouldn't have the handling of a sword, so would be better suited for admiring in a collection. Certainly nothing wrong with that, of course.

When I heard the thickness, that is what I figured. That's pretty stout for a sword. It is quite gorgeous, though, and I would love one!

Yea Eric, based on pics and descriptions I completely agree with you on the SR77 Protos. Cool to see SR77 back- I could be mistaken but it seems like everything to come out of the Yard since the Scrapizashi a has been SR101, right?

I've never actually used SR77 (S7 yes, though)...I might have to try one if these out, ya know...for research purposes...Yea, that's it ;)

that makes a lot more sense for this Gladius, I suppose...Thanks for the explanation

It really is a stunner :o  :poop: :poop: :poop:

This does have me fantasizing about the fun that could be had with a thinner, more balanced, two-handed variation with the same length in a thinner blade - and in the $2000 range....a guy can dream, right?

Oh, yeah! Love to see INFI in a purpose built sword, to see how it would do. My current favorites are the Ak47/Waki/Scrapi size....they are substantial for a sword; but they are short enough for good utility handling and toughness in hard use. I love the Gladius and the Butanikus; but those are somewhat front heavy bruisers. I'd love an INFI sword that would dance in your hand!

Thing is, that would not be a Busse for overly hard use.

That is the truth right there....and ultimately defeats the purpose for me. If I have a Bussekin sword, then I HAVE to use it!

Based on handling one, as well as the numerous posts pics and reviews backing it up, my top choice has to be the AK... I actually have my eyes on a special one that I'm hoping the owner will eventually pass on to me- that day can't come soon enough!

Yes, meant to write SLO.

The AK47, Ruck, and Waki may not be 'real' swords to an expert, but they are tough, proven performers and hella fun to use.

I'm hoping the shorty butaniku will have a good balance. The blade-handle ratio seems on a par with a number of shorter Busse swords (roughly 2:1), and the ganza photos made it look like the balance point was a couple of inches forward of the handle, which is similar to traditional katanas.

Yes, too bad there weren't any Short Butanikus at this show, it would have been a great opportunity to compare to the AK47.

i wasn't at knob creek but that gladius looks like a custom one i ordered from busse. i had it made with the blade 10" longer and the handle 1 inch longer. ill try and get some pics up later.

Oh lol.
For some reason I thought by regular Gladius you meant the original ones from many hundred years ago.:D

The one in the picture I estimate to have a blade length of very close to 3 feet.
Do you have the length of the regular Busse Gladius?

here is a photo of my custom gladius and its little brother which is a standard model they are both black g10 with red liners and satin blades.

Man I would love to have both of those! I've never been able to find one for a decent price (one today was listed for $2700 for the small one)

I love it when a Stealth Hog breaks cover and reveals himself.:cool:

i try to keep a low profile but i couldnt help myself with this one. ill have to post up some of my other infi later. it really is an addiction...:D

That's beautiful, Azoth! You say it was a custom job; if I may ask, what specs did you request? Did you get it thinned out a bit? How close to THE Gladius from Knob Creek is it? How does it handle? And, if I may, how much was it?

Thanks!
