I modeled it for Eric, but was not the buyer. I'm certainly no sword expert, but this one struck me as an SWO, not a well-balanced tool. Same for the Butaniku.
They do look cool, though.

Regular Gladius
usually 2feet overall length.
Blade around 19 inch.
Width 3 inch (smaller than in movies )
Balance point 2.5 - 4 inch from guard.
Romans also had longer cavalry swords but they weren't called Gladius.

That's such a great photo! Lucky you got a chance to hold that monster Gladius as well![]()
Pardon my ignorance but what is a "SWO" are you basically saying it's too blade heavy to be anything other than a monster chopper?
Seems like it would need more substantial fullers and a longer, wider handle, if not also some tapering to get close to being a well-balanced sword....but i don't know much about swords either.
What an awesome sword though! Congrats to the buyer!
Glad to see KC was such a great time for you all![]()
that makes a lot more sense for this Gladius, I suppose...Thanks for the explanation :thumbup:I don't want to speak for resinguy, but I've seen the similar acronym SLO, or "sword-like object" used by some of the folks on Sword Forums. I took it to mean something similar....maybe "sword wall object". Point being that it wouldn't have the handling of a sword, so would be better suited for admiring in a collection. Certainly nothing wrong with that, of course.
When I heard the thickness, that is what I figured. That's pretty stout for a sword. It is quite gorgeous, though, and I would love one!
This does have me fantasizing about the fun that could be had with a thinner, more balanced, two-handed variation with the same length in a thinner blade - and in the $2000 range....a guy can dream, right?
Thing is, that would not be a Busse for overly hard use.
Thanks Jens, but I have a Busse Gladius already and was just looking for the difference in blade length between the Super Gladius and the original model
here is a photo of my custom gladius and its little brother which is a standard model they are both black g10 with red liners and satin blades.
I love it when a Stealth Hog breaks cover and reveals himself.![]()
