Super high quality functional folders

maybe i was unlucky and got lemons but

-my CS spartan started spotting the day after i got it (live in VA, not too humid, never had this problem with any other knives, even other beadblasted ones)
-my CRKT M21 (the aluminum handled aus8 version) would never hold an edge,
-my CS recon-1 was a PITA to sharpen, more so than my 710 D2, and wouldnt even hold it, so i gave up and made it my beater, same issue with my SOG trident, which I sold bc of problems with it

but still, could just be my luck

If AUS-8 didn't hold an edge there was something very wrong believe me.

Not sure why it started to spot, interesting.

Yes it's pretty hard steel the way CS has it done, but it's not usually that hard to sharpen...

Is the CS Spartan with a bead blasted blade? If so I'd personally sandpaper it cause bead blasted surface rust easier.

Talking about high grade materials, is there a custom manufacturer that does something that looks like the 710 but with titanium handles in an extremely high quality package? Yeah I know 710 is already great but looking for uber nonsense quality ;).

Just a sucker for the 710 design... sexiest blade I own in my eyes!

There is a difference between "High Grade" and "High Dollar", the 2 do not always have an exclusive causal relationship. In my mind what determines how well a steel performs is the amount of inhouse testing and research a company does with it, before they start slapping handles and price tags on them. In addition, the ability for a steel to be stainless is a plus, it really should not be one of the criteria that determines what is a good steel versus a not great steel.

May i ask why you don't think all SOGs don't fit your criteria?

I've got a Spec-elite, and think it's up there in quality and strength. Sure, it's no Sebenza, but it's not like it doesn't hold it's own against other knives.

It doesn't. I haven't found a SOG worth owning. My Tenacious is built better.
