Super Large prototype Spyder: The Bison???

A silly big Spyderco folder would, in all likelihood, be a great thing to have. Very interested to see what will appear. I have no idea what it will be like but I almost want one already, a suitable use for it can always be thought of later. :D

I will buy one immediately. I love and carry the Police model every day. I want something about 5.5".

Spyderco is smart not to have Cold Steel completely have the large folder market. Spyderco is also smart to expand their line. They have every small folder a person could want. Time to go big.

5" for me. As I said before I love huge folders and the bigger the better. If you make one to big i'll just get bigger pockets. I have some friends going to SHOT withe explicit instructions to see all of the concepts and prototypes possible. I'm waiting for their report.

I'd be one to get a large Spyderco depending on a few things. To me, I don't have much use for small knives. There has to be something special about a knife for me to get it if it's less than 3.75 inches minimum. 4+inches is better yet for me.

Please try to keep it at the $200 and under price point though.

i would really like to see some big folders out of spyderco as well, definitely something i would buy in a heart beat:D

Another fan of large folders here, have a few of them, want a few more.
A rather large 5"+ Spydie would definitely get purchased.
My most recent purchase was a Cold Steel Large Espada, and I am quite happy with it, now edcing the huge old thing. Quite happy with the edge holding of the blade as well.

Also the Tri-Ad Lock on the CS is exceptional. Theres nothing I like more than a knife that tallks the talk. CLACKKKK!!!!

Bring it on, Sal.:D

Pictures, drawings, more descriptions, anything! I have been hearing about this folder for ages now and until now I have not even seen a blade profile......

I bought the large Espada. I sold it. I did not like the following:

1. Sits too low in pocket and difficult to access quickly.
2. Thumbplate is not a reliable opening method.
3. Can't modify for tip down carry.

The Espada is a quality knife. But, I now carry my Spyderco Police because I can reliably access it with one hand and it doesn't have the goofy thumbstud.

Wow, Great news, Sal.
I'd love to get a big Spyderco folder.
I remember first getting the Military. I thought it was too big for EDC carry, but with time and carry I realized I'm a sucker for a big folder. And just like a diamond, the Military grew smaller.
Gotta start saving up already...

I have carried the Cold Steel X2 Voyager, the Large Espada, and the Rajah II. The large knives are easy to carry. I ended up coming back to the Spyderco Police because it can be opened one handed reliably and quickly.

One handed reliability and speed is the first requirement of a defensive knife.

anyone have any pics of this beast?
*cough* *cough* sal *cough*

edit: even if its just that olld prototype from '04 that jd spydo mentioned

One thing that I truly wish the Great Spyder Factory would deeply consider; or maybe they have already>>> If this Bison model is going to be designated as an "outdoor knife" pretty much for hunting and outdoor cutting chores.

Well if that's the case I do want them to consider the possibility of making one variant of this great blade with a guthook ( and a combo edge ). The guthook was so nice on the Impala I would also love to see a guthook on one of these big blades that they have in the Spyderco Pipeline. A big 5 to 6 inch folder with a combo edge and a Guthook is an awesome idea because I don't know of any other knife company that has a huge 5 inch plus folder with a guthook.

As many of the Impala model with a guthook that sold I'm sure that a Bison with a combo edge and guthook would appeal to a big market in the knife buying world. Because I truly don't know of any production knife ( of any significant quality that is)

In a way I like the idea of a big folder with a guthook better than I do with a fixed blade having one.

The police model is a large, yet easily carried model. Blade comes in at about 4.25".

Eric's "Resiliance" is about the same length in the blade, but not as thin as the Police. It's part of the "Tenacious" / "Persistence" family.

Laci's new model is a 5.0" blade.

5.5" blade would be perfect for me. It's as large as Texas law allows. You can call it the Texan!:D I would probably retire my old Police SS for a knife like that.

I love the new Police G-10, it's basically an "urban sword". Perfect blade size for self-defense purposes or camping, but handle could be shorter, though. I'll be using mine as a meat slicer at barbecues...
