A 1968 pass around ! what a great idea... of course you could always use the general to scare them maters - :D
Woody

hum a two line pass around ...
gee ... i am sure i did that once...
one with a rubber bucky handle...;)

hum a 3 dot Bos heat treated pass around might be gooder also..
i have an extra one and some rubber handles..
had thought of doing one like that some time
then it would be the give away like before
this year maybe..
..
may start a thread asking others thoughts on that
68 440c or 84 440c cooked by MR Bos-..:D
choices ...

Maybe I'm just getting old ;-) I forgot the rubber bucky was a 2 liner.

That was a nice knife.

ok so what do you think
a 3 dot or another two or one line
rubber bucky pass a round & give away?
should we let a poll decide?

A 3 dot is a good choice, esp with the rubber scales -- I like the sturdy build/feel of that 110. There may be some here that have not handled one of these.

Give away would be your choice Dave...

I was scrolling down the different forums a day or 2 ago and saw S30V, so I stopped to look at some of the post to see what it was about. it seems most of them were badmouthing it. One person said that he thought he really liked it but when he tried to use it to cut some small internet-speaker type cables the blade hac chips out of it when he got through. most of the conversations were the same thing. Seems all their complaints were the same the edge chipped when used. Do you think that was the blades they were using, and not being heat treated like Bos does or Bucks are. This was the 1st time I heard anything like this.

I've had no problems with the Bos treated S30V blades. I think some companies push the hardness higher than the Buck/Bos HT and that makes it more brittle. I've seen these complaints on the net, but always they were talking about S30V blades from other companies, not Buck.

We have seen 420HC (as well as 440C) out perform (initial sharpness and edge holding) ATS34, BG42 and S30V that was NOT heat treated well or edged and sharpend correctly.
All of the info above we have developed over a number of years via testing in our QA lab, using CATRA machines, tensile test machines, salt water exposure tests and metalography.

That's what I thought also. They never stated which brand they were talking about. I knew that I never read any bad comments on this forum about S30v.

That was a little before I got on this forum, Remember I'm just a rookie still. I really like this forum--so much to learn. Only got into collecting and be consumed with knife collecting after a botched surgery in 2001. Before that the only knives I had was a Buck 110 and a Craftsman small stockman. It's grown a little from there though. Still have the Buck 110 from the mid 70's. It sure isn't going anywhere though. I learn so much from all of you fellow buckateers.

Yea, Dave let the pole decide. I have not even planted my maters. So there is no rush.:D

Yeah. Well, Bucksforus, the truth is......that's the only one of its kind that I can remember. And it seems that Goose has tried to take the blame on himself a few times.

:)

So you were as close to correct as one can get, unless someone else knows of more complaints about Buck S30V. I don't have any myself.......I just happen to love BG42.

Me too, It just so had to find many bg42 blades out there. I have one , and it's in display case for me to drool over about every day. One of these days I will get enough courage to use, but I plan to wait a little longer and see if another bg 110 comes along. I'm one of the bg42 voters on this poll also.

Me neither . It came about a 4 -5 in snow here in East Texas today. Most of it melted as it fell, but it was a little over 3 inches at one time. Was all gone by the time to go to evening church services. Maybe can get a couple of mater and pepper plants this week.

When did Buck change from 440C to 420HC? I have an old Buck from 1992 - -

Personally, I prefer ATS34 or 154 out of the choices. I really like VG10 better, but don't see much of a difference between ATS34/154CM and VG10.

Buck changed from 440C to 425M in 1981.
1994 is when Buck went from using 425M to 420HC on their standard production line.

ATS-34 is the Japanese 154CM, same steel, different manufacturer.

I voteb BG42,because I want a 110 in that steel real bad.I have 110s in S30V and CPM154 and love both of those knives,I rotate from one to the other. In my mind though,BG42 would be a stronger steel. Not that I'm going to pry or baton with my 110s,it's just a mental issue.I sure wish the custom shop would offer BG42 or 154CM on the 110s,I'd be all over that!
