Surplus USMC Survival Kit

Great article by the way Jeff. Rather than looking for one of the kits I'm planning on putting one together from scratch based on some of your recommendations.... Should be fun. I really enjoy your articles.

I need a Rival or Tilia Food Bag Sealer System Thing. I could seal one up good, the way they came from the gubmint.

I purchased a Kabar this summer because I was going to do a smaller article, not the large USMC SKIT article I have on my site. But have an article with a the USMC SKIT and the Kabar...I might put that off and re-do some stuff when I have a food bag sealer unit thing. Make some pemmican, yuppie pemmican, "plumpynut" and other stuff...

If you have one of these kits in reserve, nothing is perishable in there, don't open it out of curiousity. Just go read my article and Jeff's when you get a hankering for looking inside the sealed bags...but with that kit and a Kabar, talk about Welfare Survival for a Rainy Day...man...

These kits look pretty interesting, especially the wire saw. Hey Don, no disrespect intended as I appreciate your work on your site, etc but that page is pretty difficult to read with that background. Maybe it's just me getting old but it was very distracting to the point that I stopped reading it. Maybe if it was greyscaled or something that might make it less distracting? I dunno, just a suggestion.

I'm sorry I couldn't hold your attention. I wanted the EGA for the background, if that is what you are referring to. I have had people E-mail me over the years wanting all the articles they liked to be in newspaper-like print. :D

I guess I am referring to the EGA (have no idea what that stands for!). I like it, don't get me wrong. I just find at that saturation level it distracts from the text and makes it hard to read, that's why I was suggesting maybe to mute it a bit by making it more gray scale so the text stands out...the message after all is what's important right, not so much the background.
Now that I look at it again it maybe because the EGA logo is the size it is, that the detail in it distracts from the text over it.
Maybe if the logo was bigger and just one per line, centered down the middle of the page? You still get the impact of the logo but overall the info is easier to read against a black background.
Please don't take this as a jab at you or your site, I'm just offering sincere constructive criticism (I hate that word, has such a negative connotation to it!) because I respect your knowledge and willingness to share it. Again, I'm just thinking, the simpler and less busy the design and layout, the more people will read all the way through and get your message.
Anyhow, enough of my babbling!

Peace sir.

Why you I oughtta!!! :D

I'd gray it out a bit more except I don't have the software to update the site yet! Ha!

Seriously, it is very expensive software and I actually purchased it again in the summer of 2008 and the computer I put that on crashed in the summer of 2009 and it's single-use B.S.

EGA or EGAA Eagle, Globe and Anchor.

Did someone say they didn't know what EGA stands for? AHHHH! What has society come to? Just kiddin' It's the good ole' Marine Corps Emblem, the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. So Don, you finally buy out CTD's stock of USMC SKIT's? LOL

That'd be me, seeing I'm not American and all. If it's any consolation, my younger brother who is also not American, served 4 yrs with the US Army and spent a year in South Korea (about 10-20kms from the DMZ if I recall correctly) and a year in Iraq (in Sadr city?).
