Survival expert using Randall No. 1, 8 inch blade

I don't own one, but will when I find what I want. The waiting list on a 25 is like 50 months or something.

Currently 61 months and one week. This can change a little bit over time - but never by much more than a week or so one way or the other. And yes, I know the shop is saying 58 months. They lie.

A friend might ask how much money you have tied up in your bikes? It is all realtive. ;)

:p

How much tied up in my bikes you ask Eh? If you really want to know
The DH bike would have a retail value of just shy of $10000 the way its built up the trail bike would be about $4500 new as built
and the dirt jump bike is the cheap one at about $2700:o

Now I will be honest I payed no where near that for any of them, simply because I work at a bike shop and bought most of the parts off of the clearout lists mid year. I think I may have only sank $5000 into all 3 bikes in actual cash over a span of 5 years. In the last 12 months I have spent zero on bikes and close to $1200 on knives and knife making supplies.

For me the upper limit on what I think I would spend on a knife with no fear of using it would be about $250 over that I start to think about loosing it:( I like my knives to be in that 100-175 range, you get a quality knife you can use without the fear of loosing it. Just my 2 cents though, the expensive are worth the extra money just out of my comfort zone.

But they are on the secondary market 24/7 and most are less than $500. Now if we want to talk about an expensive fixed blade to carry in the woods....

People will respect you and large animals will fear you. SMATCHET!

Or you could have picked up a knockoff in Eugene a couple of weeks ago...

He got it one piece at a time, and it didn't cost him a dime. You know its unky when he comes to your town. Forgive me Johnny Cash, I still do not know how to link you tubes..... This post just inspired this song for me.

Johnny Cash was sort of my mentor (I actually got to know him pretty well back in the late '60s). In fact, he's the guy who turned me on to smoking dope. But you can't beat this video.

I have that Walk The Line CD in my truck right now. My kids always request that I play Boy named Sue. Everyone loves a good story. It really gives them the shits and giggles. It is funny because the 9 yr. old boy is trying hard to learn the lyrics all the way through. I wish the lil bastid would study that hard on his school work.

Man I don't have a disposable income but I still got my Randall 25, by waiting saving and using layaway...it's mine now and damn does it skin!

I bought it to use it 'cause $500 for the right tool is ok: by considering I don't waste money on pointless aesthetic upgrages to my car or have a home theater system that would make a Drug Lord jealous.

Considering that it's more than a five-year wait if you order one from the shop, that works out to less than $10 a month. Who really can't afford that?

I have used more expincive and rare knives in the woods....gut a deer with an angus arbuckle knife...used a peter bauchop for camp craft...never lost a knife in the woods...if your worried buy a pistol leash and put it on your knife. as far as income I make 9.25 and hour, pay rent, gas and all the other crap...gotta save up...some choose to eat and some choose to fund their knife habit in hopes they can use it as a retirement account when they get old....you can find good deals on the ebay...but dont tell Gary I said that...Mr.Randall hates ebay..alot so much in fact if your a Randall dealer and you get caught selling on ebay...not not a dealer anymore....and the list for Randall dealers (real ones) is very short. I heard that Gary Randall even makes his own famely wait the 50 something months to get a knife...I am glad to hear that hes a man of his word. also Sly wanted to use a Randall knife in the first Rambo movie and went to Gary but they needed it in 4 weeks and Gary told him to get in line...I guess that turned out good for Jimmy LIle.

Your logical thinking is side tracking me:mad:

I don't doubt that they are worth every penny that they fetch on the open market, but right now my disposable income is tied up in turning my garage into a small knife shop, so there are a few things I need to purchase before a good knife, like a good 2X72 grinder. My forge is done, just need the burner, and my homemade anvil is getting welded up this week. Maybe some day I will be good enough that my knives will pull top dollar (probably not) but until then I get great pleasure making them for myself and friends.

Maybe some day I can get a little return on my knife making and fund some of the great knives out there till then I can just drool about other peoples:o

I'm trying to upload another photo, but am experiencing "technical difficulties." Spark says he's working on it. In the meantime, you'll just have to make do with this:

Yup real nice knives, I really like the second and third ones in on the lower right. Do you have any pictures of yours and how much use they have on them? You keep this up and I may just have to start putting an extra $10 aside each month to buy one
