Survival expert using Randall No. 1, 8 inch blade

Like I said, I can't upload pics right now. Maybe tomorrow. Sorry.

BTW, the ones you like? Those aren't $500 knives.

I can, however, post photos I've already uploaded. These will all be handles of Randall knives in the fullness of time.

Okay I have stopped drooling over the wood, are you changing the handles on your knives because of wear or just to improve the look and feel? Or are they for future Randalls you intend on owning?

Future Randalls-to-be. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Well, that and whatever handle material you manage to get hold of. There's a really nice chunk of amboyna here too (not in the photo) that will be a 12-8 in about five years.

That piece of really dark (almost black) buckeye burl on the left is an interesting slab of wood, by the way. I don't think I've ever seen one that color. It'll end up being a 23 wiith nickel-silver furniture, and should be pretty sweet. The spalted maple burl on the right will be an 11-4. And I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the top piece of buckeye yet.

Thank you (somebody) for correcting the spelling on the original post. I'm not sure how it's done. I do have a older Blackjack No 1 and Trailguide , classic blades, that I like quite a bit made in Effingham. They are both carbon steel and razor sharp. They are not a Randall, but fine blades as well.

I have three Randall's. They were the first "high end" knives that I purchased years ago. They do have great balance and fit & finish. Everyone interested in knives should own at least one.

Well I would say you could send it to me, but I would never do it the justice that a true maker could. Its the really dark buckeye that caught my eye first. Dark buckeye and light maple burls seem to draw me in more then others every time, followed closely by redwood burls.

I have a really nice piece of 40s redwood burl here that will be destine for some folder scales in the future

Its not a very big piece, but I like it.

A very high percentage of the Randall nuts I know (and I know a lot of them) are also Ruana fanboys. I only have the one, but I love this knife to death and have been carrying it a lot lately:

Still pricey ($340, I think), but it's only a six-month wait. It's a 20B for those of you who want to know.

That is a nice piece I can see why people like it. At the $350 range its stepping out of my comfort zone but not by a lot and only a 6 month waiting list is a lot better then 5 years:eek: Well off I go to add to my lust list.

**Edit** The 95AD has just been added to my lust list, you sir are a bad influence:p

Get a sheath made as a 45 degree cross draw. No problem.

It all depends on what activity you're engaged in. If you're sitting in a car, even a 5" blade is a pain. For hiking, I don't find a 7-8" blade to be unwieldy at all. Guess I'm just used to big knives. In fact, this nine-incher spent a week and a half on my belt the last time I was in the Uncompahgre Wilderness Area. Big. Knife.

Unky Gumbi, send me $50 a month for a while and I can probably get you into whichever Randall model you're looking for... ;)
