what is your survival firearm ? hiking i carry a cobray .45/410 derringer single shot, while on an over night stay i also have a marlin papoose and an ruger single-six with hogue grips. this usually handles most "survival situations" around my area. if you have pics show me.

I only have one firearm and that's a SA XD40. :-)
Obviously, it's for self-defense and not bagging game.
But I figure if I have to, I can shoot small game with it..... better then nothing.

I also have the XD 40. I usually alternate between that and my ruger .44 Blackhawk. Usually I go with the XD because of the weight.

Yall talkin about surviving the mean streets or in the woods? Ain't seen many sensible woods guns, lots of SD stuff though. Chris

Can't go wrong with a ruger IMHO. Anymore a person needs to take a firearm in the bush not for the danger of the 4 legged creatures but for the 2 legged ones. I have read the .22 takedown Henry survival rifle is a good choice, the system also floats. I always like the single action .44 ruger's though.

For SD its a Glock 30

I've got a Mosin Nagant on the way here. They're cheap. And the Ammo can be had cheap.

The 7.62 round with soft points is a great game round

If you are talking about deer size game, for rabbits and squirrels it just leaves a greasy spot where the game used to be. Also if you are carrying a AK in the woods fish and game and any cop that sees you WILL hassle you.

In my opinion small game and birds will be the lion share of what goes into your pot in a survival situation. Here are my favorite meat guns, a Benjamin 392 .22 pellet rifle that is pure poison on squirrels, rabbits and sitting birds. A Ruger 22/45 with a tactical solutions aluminum upper reciever with a sleeved barrel, very light and easy to carry even with the long barrel, rifle like accuracy, built in scope rail and iron sights making it dead easy to switch from optics and irons with no change in zero. Last but not least my 65 dollar NEF 20 gauge shotgun that I have killed deer, hogs, and every small game animal that lives in the southeastern US, I have more expensive guns, much more expensive but this one finds it's way into the woods more than the others. I am currently working on a 20 gauge SBS that'll be an awsome survival gun. Disassembled it'll fit into a briefcase.

I also have a Papoose that will gladly fill the bill. I'm also thinking about an M-6 Scout and a Daisy 20/22 (the next one I see for less than $100 I'll probably buy).

If were talking about fighting Cuban paratroopers or a post Katrina style TEOTWAWKAWI, one of the above for foraging, my AR (Rock River post-ban) for fighting.

Of course, I have more that could easily foot the bill.
