Survival Knife Based On Price/Quality Point ??

For the money, I don't think you can do better than an EESE RC-4.

It's got an strong, efficient blade of superb quality, but the size is not so big as to need two people to deploy it. At the same time, it is not so expensive that if you should lose it you will be hocking your house, car and first-borne child to buy a replacement.

My only complaint is that the handle is a bit small for my hands, and I wish it was about an inch longer.

The knife connection just came out with some larger G-10 scales for the RC 4. They are thicker, contoured, and cover the pommel. They make the RC 4 seem larger, does not add an inch to the blade of course.

The RC4 is almost the answer for all three prices.

1. basic RC-4
2. add new TKC g-10 scales to RC-4
3. add a Sharpshooter, or another, leather sheath to the RC-4.

I suppose if I'm going with the "price range" idea, the Hellion is in the $100-$200 range. In the >$200 range I'd have to go with the Extrema Ratio Golem F II Geo-Camo (the one on the right with the sawback, of course...)

And under $100, I'd have to go with the Jungle Master USMC Survival Knife (if it's good enough for the Marines, it's good enough for me!)

Under $100 entrek badger. Over $100 entrek 11 bravo. Over $200 entrek buffalo. Ya, I'm an entrek fan.

can be found under 100 $ - Fallkniven F1, ESEE RC3/4/HEST, even a CS SRK if you dont mind the extra bulk, and you can do small task with it
pair one of those with a nice hatchet like GB wildlife hatchet, or on the cheap with some Fiskars , even buy a machete if the terrain demands, a lite machete from ESEE looks nice :D, and i believe your set
even add a good sak with saw just in case
those can cost less than the third option here, and be even more useful

The Camo and Sawback come in handy, especially in the world of theoretical survivalism.

Baby J Wuu - what's it down to kid?

It isn't if it's urban type survival. That would call for an entirely different knife. Not gonna be much bushcraft involved.

Hello Marcinek,

Thank you for the post. I had to think about this one for awhile. I agree with you. IMHO a city survival knife would be 80% tactical and 20% utility and the reverse for a country survival knife. What would you be carrying for a your city survival knife under the three monetary categories ?

Cordially,

BabyJWuu :)

At the moment I am getting a lot of good input from people a lot more knowledgeable than I am and I am appreciating and enjoying it very much

Thank you,

I disagree.

For me it would be 99% utility/bashing.

Breaking into something.

Hopefully I'd still have ammo and my 12GA.

Hello Sarg,

I have read some of your posts and you obviously have a lot knife knowledge.

I would appreciate it if you would provide me with the knife you would carry in a city survival situation in the three monetary ranges :)

Cordially,

BabyJWuu :D

Just get an F1. It's really all you'll ever need. Throw in a hatchet or small axe for serious chopping.

Yes, the F1 is great.

Here is an interesting low budget entry: the recent Marttiini full tang knife, scandi grind but otherwise quite different from the usual scandi knives, and excellent quality/price:

If you are interested, I made a short review video about this one.

Hopefully I'll never need to rely on just one. No one knife will really do the job so I plan on having at least three.:D

I'd like to have a slicer along (like my ML Kephart) and my Vic Farmer ...... plus my Leatherman Wave!

Then there is my Bravo 1, my Ratmandus', Skookum Bushtool, Ranger Triple Six .........

It just keeps going. There isn't one best at any price range. If you stick with Bussse and KIN, Fherman, Justin Gingrich(Ranger) you will end up with a good blade.

Actually a Dead On Annihilator or Stanley FuBar along with a Leatherman are gonna take care of the vast majority of urban survival very efficiently.

Then I'd suggest you buy it and move on.

I suggest you no longer post in this thread. Trolling infraction issued. Sorry, but you made the choice.
