survival knife review

Shrade also has another knife that is very similar to the Chris Reeve Green Beret. It looks like a pretty good knife but with obvious overt similarities to the Reeve knives.

The review was well done regardless of what you think of the knife or manufacturer.

Hmmm... I wonder if Chris Reeve will have anything to say about that design?

Chris Reeve is well aware of the Schrade knife (I called and asked) and they don't seem to worried about it as I don't think there is a law against making a knife similar to someone elses. In all honesty they seemed flattered by it. Schrade made some design changes, it's not a direct copy of the Project-I and they proudly print their name on it in big bold letters. What Chris Reeve Knives has had a problem with for some years now however are some identical design knives with a counterfeit CRK logo engraved in them coming from somewhere. They have been looking into that for years.

be careful of that one, there are some sue crazy companies out there!

What? Try and make anything similar to a cold steel knife and see how fast their lawyers call.

Maybe on certain designs, but C.S. has copied more than one design themselves. Their "Military Classic" is basically a copy of the Randall and Black Jack #1-7s, they copied the SOG bowie design, neither the trail master's blade design nor coffin shaped handle is an original C.S. design. And the first Tanto was made long years before C.S. ever existed when the first warrior took the tip end of a damaged Samurai sword and put a handle on it. If they have a problem with similar designs they are nothing but hypocrites.

Just out of curiosity do you have a link to a case C.S. started and won? I'd love to read through it for future referrence. I heard that Buck once sued Explorer over a copy of their Buck Master design but at that time the B.M. was only a couple of years old and not 26 like the Project-I is now.

Seems like a decent knife. It kind of confirms what I have said several times in the past, just because a knife isn't of a popular name brand doesn't instantly mean it is grabage. I buy $20 store-brand jeans that last twice as long as a piar of Levi's. I have a few knives like that too. Great review, and you sure put it through the paces. I don't think there is much room to debate the durability of this knife, good work sir.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

I do the same thing with jeans...why pay high prices for something that won't last as long...if that can apply with one product then.....

you wouldn't happen to be talking about dickies from walmart are you :P

I'm not backing them up with that by any means, and do agree that they have re made many designs. They do patent just about every knife that they have though.

I'd just be scared that they could win

That's cool, and I understand that fear. High-paid lawyers are often quick to call...that's part of their job....but it doesn't mean they have anything to work with other than that persons fear of their power. Just as knowledge is power, a lack there of is a weakness and lawyers can rattle off more b.S. that means absolutely nothing in reality than anyone else in the world because most don't know enough about it to tell if they are ytelling the truth or bluffing. Lawyers play people's ignorances against them about as often as not.

All patents run out at some time.

Heh, actually Mark's Work Wearhouse specials. I think they call 'em Dakota brand... yup, that's it, cheap as can be and last forever. They might not fit everyobody, but hey, I am an old man with no ass and a fixed income, heheh.

man, ya'll are missing out on the dickies work pants. Not the tight trendy what have yous, but the carpenter pants. They are like the poor man's carrharts.

Are they made in North America? The jeans I get are made in Canada, and I am a big "buy at home" guy (that includes "made in U.S.A." labels, by the way)

Hecho en mexico!
Guess they don't make the cut

I'm still buying and using them though. At $15 and almost carhartt quality, I'm sold.

After 3 years of constant outside manual labor

+2 on carharrts when (if) I have money.
