Survival Knife

Its as if I've been here before...o_O

Vic Farmer with a GPS attached to it so I wouldn't get lost in the woods and put in a survival situation to begin with.

...unless I am stuck above the tree line.

My Dozier KS-3 Professional Guides Knife and my usual SAK. Toss in a folding saw....

Depends a great deal as to "what woods".

CRK serrated Pacific. Just to see how it would perform.

CRK plain edge Pacific for me

One of my slimline machetes, Carothers field knife, a mora, and Ferrum Forge Fortis folder. Along with a leatherman.

My woods knife is a Dozier Workhorse. Yes, it's a folder. But I'm not building a new civilization on Mars...just day hiking in places like Bear Mountain, NY. Never too far from civilization.

When I do go into the woods, my regular hiking bag has a silky saw, mora companion, and fiskars x7 hatchet.
So that's my answer. Total cost, around $60 and entire civilizations have been built with less than that.

I have full confidence in my kit.

If just one knife, and no saw or hatchet, I'd grab my Becker BK4.

Again can you tell me what brand of boots those are ?
Yes sir, those are Weller USMC RAT (rugged all terrain) boots. Designed by and for the Marines as I understand. They are produced by many different companies that supply the armed forces. I believe that Danner makes the best ones, but they are twice as expensive (really shouldn't matter, we're talking about your feet) and heavier (for a boot that is already heavy by design) They may be the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. They have hot, temperate and cold designs with 1/2 sizes to at least size 16, which is important for me. Wellers, Bates etc. will run about $130 and Danners about $300. They are outstanding IMO.

I prefer to carry knives like the Survive GSO 4.1 and Ratmandu but any SAK with a saw and awl will do.The beefier knives break wood readily. However, most fires I make are unusually from twigs and small to medium sized branches. My 2 cent contribution.
