6" Busse Satin Jack at $227.00
4 1/2" Busse Badger Attack 3 at $197.00
4 1/2" Busse Groove Master at $197.00

The first and last camping knifes you will need to buy.

W.T.,

The Fred Perrin seems like an excellent fixed blade for what it's name implies, the "street".
The deep finger choil and nice palm swell with a kraton inlay definetely assure you won't loose grip of that lovely 5" VG-10 blade, however, the finger choil comes with a price.
Obviously the tang has to be kind of thin, which hints that it'd be easier to break under hard use, I'd be interested to see what Cliff Stamp reports if he ever gets a hold of one of these beauties.
Until then, i'm skeptical about the Perrin's potential performance in the bush.

Regarding some of the Busse knives mentioned, where do you get them? The Badger Attack and Groove Master do not appear on the Busse website.

How about a D2 Kabar Extreme with the nice sheath for 1/3 of that of a Busse that is if you want a large knife and I like many others can't understand why you would need this with all that other artillary you're carrying:p

Youngcutter,

There was some discussion on another thread about the strength of the tang in the Spyderco Perrin knife. Someone made the statement that Fred Perrin would French kiss anyone who managed to break the knife.

If I broke one of those knives I wouldn't dare tell anyone!

I guess the reason so many survival knives are heavily built is so the knives themselves will survive whatever might happen to them. Certainly a full tang is a desirable feature for such a knife.

Nevertheless, for some people, myself included, safety might be a greater concern that the strength of the knife. I have never broken a knife, but I have accidentally cut myself on more than one occassion. For this reason I would have to go with the deep choil over a knife with a stronger tang.

Just call Busse @ 419-923-6471, and ask for them by name- they'll know what you mean. They just came out with the knives a couple of weeks ago.

W.T Beck,

Just give them a call. I don't think they have added them to the website yet. You might also want to get on their e-mail list. They have sent out a couple of specials (both of which are expired now) where they offered a free t-shirt with the purchase of one of their new models.

I just got a Gerber Yari on trade. I really like the way it feels. Haven't worked it yet but have read some good reviews. Not bad at all for a piece under $100.00.

1. A SAK ( your choice, but try and get the saw on it)
2. Grohmann #3 boat knife, flat ground model ( around $60.00)
3. A Golock from Cutsforth, or a Tramontina Machete from SMKW. These two depending on time of year and terrain
