Survival Knife

First: the powder coat is only useful for combat, it makes the blade less visible to enemies. ....

Yes. And blood grooves are there to reduce the suction after you stab your enemies.

Powder coats are there to do one or more of the following three: look cool, provide rust protection, and/or cover up a rough blade surface. "...less visible to enemies..." ... now that's ridiculous.

Buck Hoodlum.

Can do everything any other knife can do but is nice because as a long bladed knife the weight penalty is less than that of something like a Battle Mistress.
As a plus the slender width and pointy tip can do detail work a bigger knife can't like clean smaller game, whittle and the like. RIP Ron Hood, you will always be bad ass.

Assuming this is the only sharp object I have (no axe, saw, etc.) I would pick a knife in the 10" blade length range. It's long enough to chop and baton efficiently, but short enough to do small tasks.

In a survival situation I'd probably only have my Case peanut or Remington scout knife. I'd like to have my Gossman Tusker.

My Scrap Yard Knife Co. Mil-Regulator.

It has a 7 3/4 blade and is .33 thick.

Its just long enough and heavy enough to use as a chopper - not optimal but it will work

And its so thick it would be a good pry bar if one was needed in an urban survival situation.

Plus, the blades not too long for small jobs or too small for big jobs.

Sure it won't be the best at many things but no tool is best at all things.

Sorry! Multiblade knives are against the survival rules. (Check out the first post.)

That said, if I were inexplicably teleported into a "survival" situation right now (I still don't know how one gets into one of these "you can only have one knife" survival situations), I'd only have my Case Red Bone CV Peanut on me, too. I guess I'd be out of luck! Can't use it! Against the rules! :D

I do have my Leatherman on me...but that is probably disallowed too. Along with my cell phone to call for help, my lighter, my flashlight, etc etc etc

Nice, wish i could find one of those. Are they out of stock or out of production or what?

I guess I would go with this one...

Or this one...

Out of the knives I own it would have to be my Koster Buschcraft. However, I'd take a hawk or hatchet long before any knife.

Sorry! Hatchets are against the survival rules. (Check out the first post.) :D

Though a hatchet in the woods in ANY situation would be awfully handy.

Mine would be my Fallkniven S1 , since it can do everything I need it to do.

I think I would go with a Junglas. As Ron Hood said, "A big blade can do a small job, but a small blade can't do a big job."

Edit: I think I would actually take my Scrapyard Regulator. I love that knife. <3

The Scrap Yard Knife Regulators are not being made any longer. Scrap Yard Knife Co. is Dan Busse brother of Busse Combat. They make one or two (sometimes 3) knifes for anywhere from 10 days to a few months and then they make a different desigm. If you google Busse Knifes you can get a website that will show links to all three Busse Kin companies. There's Busse Combat (and custom), Swamp Rate Knifes and Scrap Yard Knifes.

The Regulators are showing up on EBAY pretty regular (no pun intended  ).

I wish I knew how to post pictures to this forum.

Best wilderness knife I've ever owned. Wouldn't go into the woods without it.

If I could only have one I would choose a larger knife such as my Scrapyard Regulator it is the perfect size for a jack of all trades master of none "survival knife" and the tip is still pointy enough for somewhat more delicate task it is no means the perfect knife for any particular task but can handle a wide variety of task in a serviceable manner.

Are you the thread police?

More of a "you are in a survival situation and can only have one knife" thread provocateur! :D

I can never stay within the "...can only have one knife" rule, myself! Nor can I figure out what a "survial" situation is, or how I'd get into one!

Threads like this are really just masturbation. That doesn't mean they aren't fun, but it always cracks me up when people take them seriously.
