Survival Knife

Since receiving my Bark River Canadian Special I have to say that I'm very impressed with it. I don't think I would need much more knife than this unless I could carry a machete or big chopper as well. I think this knife would be great for any survival situation... Especially with that ferro rod in place.

I think any good knife would be fine for short term, but if you're going to be out there awhile, I'll take a NMSFNO for the Tarzan gig.

Hey someone wanted a SYKC Regulator - on the busse sub forum someone has oen for sale great price wanted $130 if I remember correctly.

My NWA Sierra Scout .

Solid construction

you wont survive long with just one knife hahaa

Uhhh...wut? If someone does not have the survival skills to survive with one knife....then more than one ain't gonna help.

Do you believe that the more gear you have on you...the better your survival skills are?

That makes my head hurt.

Maybe he follows the saying "Two is one, one is none". If you have only one knife and lose it, you'll be in deep trouble. If you carry a backup like a small folder or multitool, then it's not nearly as bad.

In a one tool situation? I'd take an axe, and at least 19" of it. But that's against the rules, so in the spirit of the thread, I'd take a kukri. Those things are basically hatchets on steroids...

If we're talking traditional knife? Probably my Bark River Liten Bror -- nice and thick convex grind, strong tip, tough steel. It's a good compact bush knife. I just wish the handle was thicker on that thing.

And three is two! And four is three!

If a person has only one knife and loses it....that's person's a knucklehead. That person should stay indoors.

You're in a survival situation and can only have one single bladed knife,( no multi-blades or hatchets). Which knife would you choose and what blade length? ( Bear Gryll's?)

The simpler the question, the more complicated the answer. Just asking about survival is fine, but is this a planned expedition or an emergency event? What is the environment and the season? Is there a good basic knife for any time, any place?

Not too long, not too heavy. You need a knife to make tools, shelter, fire, and food.

I'm going to assume this is a wilderness survival scenario. I think I would have to choose either my Chris Caine survival tool or my Chris Caine bushcraft knife. To have both would be ideal. Ratmandu is also an ideal medium length blade IMO.

Although I enjoy rugged fixed blades as much as anyone here, I've decided that the best course is to learn how to do as much as you can with your EDC, since that is what you will likely have in an unexpected emergency.

And yes, I know that is one of the biggest BF cliches.

... or really unlucky, which is what you have to be to end up in a survival situation. It's not ridiculous to have a spare, especially if it's a vital equipment like a knife. You don't need 2 knives to survive, just like a car doesn't need 5 wheels. Every car comes with one spare tire, is it a slippery slope where eventually all cars will come with four?
