Survival Pouches/Sheaths

I used a custom made box on my BK2 instead of a pouch.

Having the absolute essentials attached gives me peace of mind.

thats perty cool who did the box?

I've been playing with another Maxpedition Volta pouch. I really like the size and sleekness of it compared to the strobe pouch. This time i came up with a way to mount it to a taco sheath for my new Becker BK-4.

FYI: Im leaning towards replacing the 2 ESEE pouches i have with Maxpedition pouches. After just one short hike one of my ESEE pouches is ripped near a front side eyelet. I havent had any Maxpedition gear fail me yet, some of it with 4 years of use.

This was something I've been playing around with. This is a cell phone pouch that fits a Altoids tin perfectly. I'll probably end up getting a larger pouch though.

This was a test fit for a fishing setup, I'm not positive I like it's bulk though.

I should never have joined this forum...there is way too much awesome gear on here. The Mrs is going to beat me senseless with all the $$ I'll spend. Great set ups folks.

I'm like Colt6731. I also don't like carrying gear on my knife sheath. You want cheap? - a crocheted pouch that holds an Altoids tin. If you are in desperate need of cordage, turn the pouch inside out, one little snip and you can quickly unravel about 150 feet of jute cordage for shelter building, snares, etc. Cost? Less than a buck.

I laced paracord through the molle on the back of the pouch and through the unused grommets on the sheath.

What ESEE is that? Looks like a 5, but that pommel is quite different from any others I've seen...

RAT-5 D2 steel, I've had it for a couple of years. I recently replaced the black linen scales that it came with with the "green" canvas ones from ESEE. I had to work at it a bit to get the pins to line up.

The ESEE scales faked me out :)

Never saw anyone swap them onto a RAT.

Thanks for the followup.

Here's how I do it, BK9 in a Junglas sheath, with River-8 suspension and pouch. River-8s work is great, low profile but high capacity.

Mind posting a pic of the back for the CABS/belt pouch setup? I have both, and you've got me curious.

Sure, Kane...

I just cut the stitching on two of the web loops, and slid the sheath and teklok clip underneath...

The whole thing still goes onto my belts easily, or I can slip the sheath back out for use separately.

As much as i would love to pick up a Lost Mountain Iron Works sheath i just cant justify the cost nowadays.

So, i figured i would start a thread to talk about alternatives. Lets see, or hear about, your own cheaper versions of survival sheaths. I know everyone has ESEE pouches, but i am looking more for pouches attached to sheaths that weren't meant to be, but work well!

I've tried several different sized pouches myself from Tactical Tailor, Condor, and Maxpedition and i've found that the Maxpedition Strobe pouch is the perfect size to fit most kydex sheaths for 3" + blades.

Here's 2 of them on a SY 711 sheath from azwelke.

What sheath is the brown one

I often don't have anything on my sheath, if I do its a small fire steel. Other wise I keep a small kit on my belt or in my backpack.

Which pouch is that?

Haven't seen this thread in a while, I made this small pouch-sheath recently for a Swamp Rat: Rodent Solution. I need to mess around with some of the smaller/thinner Maxpedition pouches, some of those are pretty big though.
