I think most any good .22 would be a good survival rifle. Ammo is cheap and easy to carry. A .22 will kill most animals with a well placed shot, but I wouldn't hunt bear with one. I like the Henry lever action. It shoots shorts, longs, or long rifles.

Yeah, the beauty of cheap ammo is that you tend to practice more with it.
As for the bears, that 10/22 won't save me, but that bear will never again consider a human an easy meal, 'cause I'll sting his big arse with .22 LRs. lol
