Survival: Self Cancer Checks are REALLY important

I was 24 when diagnosed with Oral Cancer. I had a 9 hour surgery, 3 chemo treatments and 31 radiation treatments. Like DocArnie says, it will get worse before it gets better...but it can be beat! Stay positive, and if you need to talk shoot me a PM:thumbup:
I hope this is not the case for you, keep your spirits up. Prayers sent.

Craig

Sorry to hear about it, but it sounds like you are in good spirits and well supported. Best of luck in your recovery and kicking Cancer's a$$!

I've got a bunch of old Blade magazine issues if you are interested in filling your time with reading some mags. Not sure if you get them or not.

Shoot me an email if you are interested at :

Sorry to hear that. Its scary. Ive had two cancer scares. One testicular and the other esophigous.Luckily both test came back negative.

Be sure to stay positive. From what I understand it is one of the "easiest to treat" and when caught early has a super high survivability rate. I'm sure everything will turn out fine in the end.

Prayers sent from San Diego.

Oh man that sucks. Prayer and best wishes sent bro. Take it easy and keep us posted!

another one to check for is SKIN CANCER, especially if you are fair haired. I go in twice a year and they take UV photographs of the skin and compare them to the last set of pics, plus there is a detailed visual exam.

So far i been lucky!

Best wishes sent Bro! keep the spirits up!

That sucks but the good thing is usually it can be beat.

I always check for sure because I had an undescended testicle when I was a kid. It came down but gives you more of a chance of that sort of cancer so I always keep watch.

Best wishes to you:thumbup:

We all need to be aware to give ourselves the best chance, you are a brave man and I do know how you are feeling.

naked, prayers for you from Ohio.

8 years ago when my wife was going for hew nuclear iodine treatment consult for thyroid cancer, we were talking to the nuke med director.

He stated her type of thyroid cancer was the "if you have to have it" cancer for women.

He then stated that testicular is the "if you have to have it" for men, very curable and great survival prognosis.

I'm a 22+ year survivor of Hodgkins.

Be sure to consult only bona-fide medical sources like WebMD, Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, etc for info. Otherwise you'll chance "wives-tales" type info.

Get ready for the emotional roller-coaster man.

We'll be here for ya.

Well, I just got back from the hospital. I had a reaction to some of the medicine they gave me, and it cause some severe nausea, which cause an already bleeding artery to bleed even more. I had some MAJOR hemorrhaging, and was rushed to the ER. They did some exploratory surgery to find the problem, relieved the swelling, and installed a drain tube. It has been a long two days.

I had my CT scan this morning, and I'll hear the results of that and my biopsy Wednesday morning and get the drain tube removed then too.

I REALLY appreciate all of the encouraging words and PM's. I'm in good spirits, and I'm not in much pain. I just need some good rest!

I'll post back the results from my Dr's visit. I had really hoped to have internet at the hospital so I could keep myself entertain with BF, but I was stuck with TV. I've got a lot of pictures that I'll post whenever we can get them online, but they might need some filter and editing... :D

My mind went blank at the hospital without anything to read! Email inbound.

Prayers on the way from Texas and Oregon. Hope all goes well.

Stay positive (looks like you are) and don't let cancer rule you :)

But about self exams, I am pretty much already giving myself a self exam all the time (when not in public) :D

Well, I got my drainage tube removed today! It has 8" long... yeesh! The growth was 95% seminoma, and 5% tetrinoma. We are meeting with an Oncologist next week to discuss the next move, which would likely be lymph node surgery or some chemo. They don't think it has moved on much, but they want to make sure it doesn't and won't.

Good news is that my Oncologist works with Lance Armstrong's Oncologist, who is 2 hours away!

So, doing much better, really glad to have the tube out. I get to shower tomorrow! I just been having some really bad headaches from all the blood loss.

Again, I appreciate everyones thoughts and prayers.
