Survival sheath systems - Belt sheath

A sheath that incorporates the properties of a pancake style and a paddle type sheath where the knife is on the outside of the pants and the paddle forms a holster for a small revolver. It probably sounds a little crowded and a little complicated but I trust that you'll consider it fully before telling me that it's impossible or ridiculous.

Doable. Depends on the size of the gun.

Mr. Humelbaugh,

Good to hear from you again. Did you check out that video I sent you? The gun that I have in mind is an NAA Mini-Master. I've decided on it as a "woodswalking gun" for my casual rambles through the "wilderness of Ohio". I don't think there's anything in the state that can't be taken with a .22 Magnum...even the crackheads are relatively tame.

I'm surprised more people didn't respond to this idea...they must lack our vision...just joking...but seriously, throw a firesteel loop on this rig and a strap-on compass pouch and it's what, the ultimate, ultimate survival sheath?

That is a beautiful blade, I must have one!
Also agreed with task force k, Those kydex rigs are just begging for a piggyback small psk.

Liam,

We're talking about a holster/sheath/PSK combo. Survival Sheath Systems already has a Kydex sheath with a PSK pouch on his website www.survivalsheath.com that might be exactly what you're looking for (along with about four-and-a-half-dozen other sheaths that can't be lived without.

What do y'all think of the holster/ sheath combination concept I described earlier? I crave input on this.

I'd also recommend a shoulder rig for the gun under your left arm and the blade under the right. Easier to get to while driving or on your back. You can also draw with the left hand and shoot a passenger, if you ever really need to:D , or reverse grip the blade with the right hand.

Task, I've got the same combo and love it. I know exactly what you mean about "good retention with an easy draw". I wish more kydex makers could do that. Excellent product with excellent fit and finish.

Robert H.,

I've got to avoid shoulder rigs. We have this ridiculous CCW law in Ohio that the weapon must be visible from outside one's vehicle. Anybody else find that strange? Why not just issue t-shirts with your CCW permit that say, "CARRYING" in bright red letters? When I was licensed in TX, all you had to do was hand the cop your permit with your license if you were armed. When I was licensed in WA, and the law may have changed, you didn't have to let the cop know you were carrying unless they asked but it was considered a courtesy to hand your permit over with your license.

Liam and others,

So far the only problem I've had with the blade is that it doesn't FEEL sharp. It'll still shave hair and still slice paper on a near molecular level (just kidding) but it just doesn't feel like it can do it. If that's my only problem, I'm happy. Is this just a thing with convex edges? I had a BJ Mamba years ago and it might have had the same issue.

So you have a CCW, but the pistol has to be visible outside the vehicle?

I know it's hard to believe and legislation is in the works to change it but:

Ohio Revised Code 2923.16 (E) and (E)1 state: (E) No person who has been issued a license or temporary emergency license to carry a concealed handgun under section 2923.125 or 2923.1213 of the Revised Code shall do any of the following: (1) Knowingly transport or have a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle unless the loaded handgun either is in a holster and in plain sight on the person's person or it is securely encased by being stored in a closed, locked glove compartment or in a case that is in plain sight and that is locked

It contradicts the very meaning of concealed?!?!?

The governor stated that he would veto the legislation unless he had support from state law enforcement. One of the governor's AH buddies in LE demanded this and it was agreed to by CCW proponents in order to get the law, any law, into effect. It was hilarious...first some mucky-muck from state LE argued that there was no reason to have a weapon in a car...you could just drive away from a carjacking. Then he changed his tune, after a well-publicized carjacking murder, to point out the dangers to LEO's of having gunwielding criminals at a traffic stop...the public was soon disabused of this notion...seriously, criminals are already carrying weapons and it's not the law abiding guy that goes out and tests for his CCW and pays for the permit that the LEO's need to worry about. Then this toad tried the most despicable tactic..."What about the children...in the car...with a (gasp) GUN?" One prominent CCW proponent assured the Concerned Mothers Against Rationality that they didn't have to carry a gun. So, they demanded this little piece of idiocy thinking the CCW folks would never go for it but we passed it and now we're trying to fix it.

Back on topic with a user abuse report.

I was on a lift today and for reason that I won't go into, I was not wearing a belt. I stuck my Fallkniven F-1 in its Survival Sheath Systems Kydex Belt Sheath into my back pocket.

Can anybody guess what happened?

That's right...It fell...at least thirty feet. The lift operator said it hit point down. As I was being lowered, I cursed myself...why didn't I wear a belt? That's why there's a Tek-Lok on the thing...to keep it on one's belt.

No damage. None. Nothing wrong. not even a scuff or impact mark.

I don't recommend trying this on purpose but for the chronically dumb (me), it's nice to know you can. This sheath is tougher than tough.

Hey Task Force,

Congrats on your F1! Should you not be too happy about the sharpness of your convex edge, give this link a try:

http://knifeforums.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/751826/

The method described here is easy as anything and cheap as chips! I must admit I was a bit sceptical about the use of sandpaper at first, but after a bit of practice, all of my knives are shaving!

Good luck, and my best wishes to your wife, your dog (she's pretty!) and yourself!

Cool. Thank you. I've heard of that but not seen it demonstrated. I'm not unhappy with the sharpness...it just doesn't FEEL sharp. It's actually crazy sharp. I've been stropping it on a belt with some jeweler's rouge and it works great but I'm going to try the mouse pad method soon.

My wife's pretty, too, but that's BIGBCUSTOM's dog. I agree, that's a good looking dog.

Task Force K,

Just so you know, the Ohio CCW laws change effective March 17. As of that day, you no longer have to have the gun in a holster that's in plain sight in your car, you simply have to have it in a holster (or carried in any of the other acceptable ways). It's a really big step forward for Ohio's CCW.

You can read all about it at www.ohioccw.org

Have a good one, and enjoy that knife!
