Survival Show on DiscoveryChannel?

If you look really close, the knife he is using, is not the Frost one at SMKW, the Frost one appears to be a cheap ripoff of the one he has.

The Frost one has a more pronounced curve in the blade, like a Khukuri, the guard is also more rounded and the handle is held on by 4 stainless bolts.

The one Myke Hawke uses is more streamlined in the Parang style, and the guard is more pointed and handle has 2 black bolts on the handle, similar to a Becker.

Ummm I hate to say it, but in an interview with Myke about the Parang, he said it was just a cheap one he pick up down there, but he didn't have his actual Machete, and he commented it was quite a bit heavier then he normally used. The site I read this on said they had hundreds of inquireies about the knife. I will see if I can dig up the link.

EDIT: Here's the link, thou I don't know how good the info is.

Oh I ain't saying it's a good parang, just not the Frost Khukuri. :D

I kinda agree with what he says in your link, it does look a little thick for jungle use, but it was prbably better than nothing.

The Science of Survival was the title. I liked how they mixed it in with the I Shouldn't Be Alive shows. I would like to see more of their SoS series - I have a few of them recorded. I'll have to dig them out.

I really liked the blade - the parang he had, cheap or not. I could never find one and I think the search for it is what eventually started me on a path that got me here. I still haven't found that parang. :o

I thought it may have been a custom when my I first saw it with all my lack of experience and the difficulty of finding it - how much one learns...;)

The series was good and I thought Hawke was credible - the shows didn't air too long after Survivorman first started and I think it was before the full launch of Man v. Wild. I thought we would see more shows with Hawke in them.

The Science of Survival seemed to show a little more of the "how to" part but it was far from being an instructional video. All in all they were good.

Now someone find me that parang!!!! :D

I have it recorded and saved. I loved that one. Mike hawke should have done more shows like that. That one is a keeper in my favorite saved shows.
