Or you make the sheaths with a retention screw on the side that allows for slightly thicker or thinner handles ?

That would definitely be an option if you make your own, but the survive stock sheaths aren't adjustable from what I can tell

Getting one with liners (since a guy's spending a little extra on the knife anyway) would make it a good candidate for some sweet kydex like what HaleStorm offers or some nice leather. Plus you could either sell the stock sheath or use it for trading material.
