Survive! Sheaths and standard attachments that fit them

The esee pouch bolts right up to the new 5.1 sheaths

The screws that came with the pouch are a little long, of course that is an easy fix. Spaced just right for the lower eyelets, and then through the upper slots.

Nice and even with the sheath, a really good fit :)

Nice!

Between this thread and the wishlist threads that have popped up, it would be cool to see (someday, not now, but in the future) SURVIVE! offer their own pouches and sheath extensions. They have a close relationship with Sagewood and I don't want to see quality kydexers lose business, but the pouch and drop extension seem to be highly sought after secondary add one.

If they don't go that way it will surely keep the demand for UKE's, ESEE and Maxpedition pouches and Kydex and leather add ons.

I knew I'd have some wiggle room with the slots, but I couldn't believe it when I first lined it up and the lower eyelets fit. It's spaced perfectly.
That's some good luck right there!

Now that's a great idea!

I would definitely like to see that at some point, at least if it's a money-maker for them. I would think that production danglers would have some margin for profit, even with a ring in them like Sagewood's.

Yeah, I don't know enough about the business side, but that just seems to be a big trend with a lot of customers who carry and use these knives. I haven't noticed a lot of people rushing to get upgrades handles or kydex sheaths because the stock stuff is so good. Adding pouches and drop down or dangler attachments seems to be the biggest things I've noticed.

Good tips! [emoji106]

Mine didn't quite match up - I was using the top holes and the bottom of the sheath was a bit narrower than the pouch-spacing, so I used ties:

RE: danglers from S!K, Ellie and Guy mentioned working on something some time ago but I don't know that status of that endeavor. I would certainly LOVE to have them offer my UKE (or a modification thereof) as part of each package :D The extension itself and belt-clip would be easy for them to take on.
The sagewood extensions are quite expensive for the materials/manufacture involved (<$1 leather, <$1 kydex), their profit margin on each is probably huge, but I'm not involved so cannot be sure, and I do not know their margins for labor costs.
The same goes for most firesteel holders that I've seen go for >$10 a piece - those again cost <$1 in materials, basic equipment (oven or heat-gun + rod for the mold + punch for the kydex) and take seconds to produce. The mounting hardware is the most expensive part. $3-4 should be the norm there, but again labor-costs might play a role.
IIRC, the ESEE pouches and MOLLE-back are made in Mexico - Guy would need to find a US manufacturer to keep with his previous principles on that.

A good kydex sheath, that is not so easy to produce, takes a complex mold (the knife, blockers, etc.), more equipment and a lot more material, and more of the maker's time to get it right. I have respect for sheath makers like Kiah and Al and Hale Storm and Brown and Mashed Cat, etc. Oh, and the new sheath-maker for S!K :) they have a good thing going there.

This has me wondering why. Do you suppose the pouches are inconsistent or the rivet spacing on the sheaths vary? Only having the one 5.1 I can't say, but had assumed the rivet spacing on the sheaths would be identical.

I have noticed some of the esee pouches look different than others. My od green looks like the one in your pics, it has a flap that is rounded and even. The khaki pouch that is shown with my 5.1 is different. The left side of the flap has a square corner, but the right side is rounded like the green pouch. I also noticed that this khaki pouch was packaged from esee. It was well wrapped and had their sticker on the bag it was packaged in, which says 'Made in the USA.'

I do not remember the green pouch that I bought coming in the same packaging that the khaki did, so maybe there is some variance. I have a black pouch in transit and will try to compare it with this khaki pouch when it arrives.

This was in my mind as well. You've got to make a profit to stay in business, but I think this is a product where there might be room for competition.

Quoted for posterity. And all the makers you mentioned give back to the forum with their help and insight

For all who might be interested, my ESEE pouch does fits nicely on the new GSO5.1 sheath. I bought the pouch about 2 years ago.

That's exactly how mine fits, and the black one I had on order came in today, and it is spaced exactly the same. Both the black and khaki came with black RAT tins, and were packaged from esee.

Thanks for sharing yours donscpoo.

It's always good to let everybody knows their options and what works. I been through this alone and wasted quite a lot of time/money trying.

Chiral, my pouch does says it is made in USA. I saw the picture of pouch you have before. Almost all the OD green pouches picture are the same as the one you have. Maybe ESEE uses a different supplier for their OD green pouches. We will need another member with OD green pouches to verify that.

The old spec 5.1 with the od backer and pouch. These too were slightly off for this sheath, but it was close enough to still use the hardware that came with it.

I must have an older pouch or something, good to know that y'alls' work so well

I wonder if/when they switched manufacturers. Mine had a silver tin.
Knifecenter lists Mexico: http://www.knifecenter.com/item/RC52POUCH/ESEE-Knives-ESEE-5-and-ESEE-6-Accessory-Pouch-Black
I didn't see a listing for "made in" on the pouch/Molle-back on the ESEE catalogue. *shrug*

My od green pouch looks exactly like chiral's and TT's, with the 'even' flap. I remember that it came with a silver tin like chiral describes, and am wondering if donscpoo is right that they were outsourced to a different supplier. I think that any of these 'made in the USA' pouches with the 'uneven' flap and the black tin are going to go straight on our 5.1's.
