SURVIVOR! Try stick

The next time i get out camping i really want to try one of these out. Seems like a good campfire project!

Great job!

And thanks for posting those pages for reference too! :)

If that was directed at me, that is quite the compliment coming from you! I like seeing the different versions of try sticks. At least one of those was originally posted by Standard.

Speaking of Standard, I took a closer look at your sticks and you were getting pretty artsy with those twists and embelishments.

Try stick with your coffee?

Its a slow process, cause I got kid to chase around but it'll get there.
Tex, you're doing it wrong..... to get through full relaxing effect of the whittling you need to be apart from the rug rats, possibly with a bottle or two of Shiner Bock :D

Really though, looks like you're off to a great start. Coffee is a pretty good substitute for alcohol, especially in the AM. Nice mug!

Looking forward to seeing how the stick turns out.

I want the 4.1 to be the first knife to try doing my first try stick. I guess I will have to keep trying till I get it right. Where is my 4.1?

Yea I rarely drink. I started it at four but I was also taking care of stuff in the house so momma could get up and go to work. So I guess the tiny_toothpicks nap time will have to do.

Texas, I hated the orange G10 handle at first but yours and many others I have seen is helping me change my mind. Looks kind of sexy and bright.

Don't tell Riz ;)

Yeah, I kept going back and forth. Someone made a comment in another forum (and there was similar talk about Standard's manly pink folder) that colored handles can make a knife look less threatening when it is clearly bright orange. People wouldn't confuse me with a commando ninja, but rather just a guy with a tool in the woods.

I didn't like it when I first for them but they grew on me. I use them when I feel I need a high visibility knife.

You guys nailed it. High visibility and less threatening. It looks cool too. I think I will order an orange scale too when it is available for the new handles.

I have to thank Google for some of those ideas. There are some guys out there that are true artists when it comes to their carvings.

It definitely helps! It shows that you're not hiding anything plus it'll be hard as hell to lose it when you're outdoors. I'm really hoping that Kiah makes some sort of belt loop attachment with that new rubber webbing because I'll be all over that high visibility orange material.
