The problem with the wood ones is that when they are tensioned correctly the changes in humidity can make them go too tight or too loose even over the day.. the plastic ones, while cheaper, do not suffer from this issue. I couldn't stand the wood for this reason.

...also I saw this thread was called Svord and I knew instantly that J Man would be in it up to the ears ha. What he says about the Von Tempsky bowie is completely true. There a large group of us in Australia who own them and swear by them. They are ugly like a teenage date but they take a beating and chop through anything.

I also own a BK9 and the V.T makes it look like a kids toy. Beware its spooky powers.
Hint: If you google Von Tempsky Bowie you will find all the information you need from many end users :). I have never owned a better bowie...

PS - I got the peasant folder in wood on the way - I got a ton of antler that I intend to use to remake the handle in horn and turf the wood. If I can actually make it work I will post back here.
PPS - Nice black polish on the peasant above :).

I used to own a VT and it was the most impressive bowie I'd used back in the day when I had it. big and mean.

there is actually a good little video history thing on youtube if you search his name.. I had no idea that he was also amazing at water color and scrimshaw as well as being a good fighting man.

Von Tempsky is a monster. It looks smaller in the pictures than it actually is; I could almost wield it with two hands.

I had a peasant knife and it was a great cutter, but torture to carry in my pocket. That tang poked me all day long. I hated to sell it off but, I couldnt take it anymore. Very cool though, Svord makes good stuff.
