Swapping Blades *Question*

Trax,

I really appreciate the pictures of the backsprings. The four dot backspring I have as a part looks like the lower spring aft and upper spring forward. I'm guessing the 3 dot is similar. In any case, I'll find out when the knife gets here.

I earlier got the 1 ton arbor press on your advice and cut a 1/8th pin press down to about three inches long and it bolts right in the press and pops the bushing pin right out. Real pleased with that.

Saturday, I got the two Leavitt damascus drop points installed in two knives I sent over for the blade installation. The blades look great but the installation was/is not good. Right now I have the birds eye out of the frame due to a significant wobble. It looks like the frame got bent in during the installation. So, I'm not sure if I can salvage that frame so I thinking of putting the Drop Point into a 111. We'll see how that goes. Anyway, chalking it up to entertainment expense.

Since you have a knife that has a broken blade, why not call up Buck customer service and see if you can simply pay a few bucks to cover the cost of an S30V blade and rocker? They don't like to do blade swaps in unbroken knives anymore, but in the case of a broken knife, the blade has to come out anyway.

If they agree to do it, make sure to put a DETAILED letter in the box with the knife.

Anyway, just a thought. If you're looking forward to doing it yourself, don't let me discourage you - but riveting a 110 together is a bit more of an art than it looks like.

'trax that is one fine compairson pict!
thanks i needed that one!
glad it was not thumbnail!

The swap is done. I've been wanting an old framed, macassar ebony with a premium steel 110 for a while and I think this one will is spot on for what I wanted. This blade is tighter than the Wally World knife so what could be better.

I forgot to say that the blade notch and the backspring matched up just fine. The blade does sit a little higher than the old blade. So I have a question with regard to that issue.

If I wanted to have the blade tip drop a tad lower in the frame, can I take a bit off the bottom of the ricasso?? I seem to remember that was the suggestion when I fubar'ed the canvas barehead project and I ended up with a high tip. Am I recalling that correctly? Thanks g

Ground down the ricasso a tad and everything is perfect.
I have to admit that the highly polished blade (for S30V) as caused me to set this knife aside for the moment. Dang it.
