Swayback Jack

The SBJ is my favorite knife to whittle with. I sure would like one with Amber bone scales and CV steel.

When I started my discovery trip into American traditionals, this was the first pattern that caught my eye, for the choice of blades.
And still now, I do like it alot, even tho my eye got caught by other patterns as well.
I just wish that Case did this pattern in CV with a different handle material (call me blasphemous, but the chestnut bone does't really appeal to me).
Meanwhile, I enjoy seeing your pics tho :)

Very nice photo Peter. You've just about convinced me to purchase one now.

I ordered a SBJ about a month ago and it is, a very attractive knife. Since most of my slip joints are bone or stag, I ordered my Case SBJ in smooth oak.

I like it!! I'll see about posting a pic tomorrow. Right now, proper lighting is not my friend, LOL.

YOU NASTY BUNCH OF ENABLERS....

I do think this is my next Case. Love this one.

I've been carrying my SBJ CV 2 weeks now... straight... Best... Case... I've seen... ever... so far :D I love it. I may need second though, just in case... and green one too... and gents version aswell... :p

I have a little question for all you SBJ fans :)
From what I could see on Case's website (and some online dealers), it seems that the only Case SBJ in CV is the chestnut bone...which I'm not really fond of.
Was it always like that, or have there been other series in the past, with a different handle? For example, is Dan's Cayenne bone SBJ in CV or SS? or Falah's Green bone?

Chestnutbone is CV, everything else so far I've seen is stainless. Cayene bone, gents versions, both green version (Bose Signature and Bermuda green) are listed with stainless steel.

I prefer the CV, but don't be afraid of the SS steel from Case. I am a recovering steel snob, and have been happy with Case's current stainless.

Mine is Tru Sharp stainless and it has served me very well. This is a fairly recent pattern from Case, so there aren't any older models out there with CV. The Chestnut bone is the only one available with it. I personally think it's about time for a version with yellow scales and CV blades.

The only other option for carbon steel is the raindrop damascus. It is quite a bit more expensive though, and it won't develop a patina the same way the CV will.

I can't get my head round the enthusiasm for this knife.

It's nice enough, but looks like it needs fettling

Three of my best made production knives... two Jacks and a Gent. All three have been used. I took the scan a minute ago. They still look great to me.

I like the way this pattern slips in the pocket and is so easy in the hand. Semi-sunk joints help ensure it is kind to the pockets too.

I have both the cv Chestnut and the ss Bermuda Green. Really fine jigging and bone on these and both knives display NO irritating shortcomings in fit&finish, they are really well-made knives that give a great deal of satisfaction. I just wish CASE would apply the same standards to their other knives from now on. That would put an end to all this having to test out their wonderful customer service etc etc. And, well you know these aren't expensive knives right? They churn out thousands of them so they can't be expected to bla bla.
