how come on a few spyderco knifes and alot of tactical folders the swedge is sticking out of the handel so that you cannot sharpen them the most prominant one is on the native (which is ground incorrectly they are off I will try to get some pictures of it)

With one exception that isn't in their printed catalog, Spyderco's knives are primarily tools, which can also be used as weapons in the gravest extreme, God forbid.

Making the blade of a folder, or at least the front inch and a half or so, fully enclosed in the handle restricts your options if you are trying to make it as useful as possible in the open position. And you don't want a sharpened false edge if you occasionally choke up on the blade and put your finger out on the spine for control when you are doing fine cutting.

For a purpose-built folding dagger, if you wan that sort of thing, look to the Gerber-Applegate double-ground folders, where that top butter knife edge is sharpenable, and is entirely inside the handle.

yes I have one of the imitation ones of those and well I had used it untill I had gotten my Rescue and I had sharpened the false swedge with a belt sander someting I would not do if I had the real one

by the way I had just picked up a fake poliece edition the only difference is that the fake one sucks!

Give them a bit more credit. You could sharpen the short false edge on a Police Model and the handle would cover it just fine (at least, it would on the one I'm holding). Oddly, the angles are a bit off on the new Rookie so you can't do likewise. A shame, as the lineup between the end of the handle and the false edge is one of my favorite "little touches" on this design.

Given the laws in most places, I think a false edge is fine even if it can't be sharpened. It still serves its two primary functions: increasing penetration slightly and looking cool.

Fake Police Models? Grrrrr.

Timmy said on one of his first posts it was due to his "potty mouth" when he was a young child.

The C01 "Worker" model and the C07 "Police" Model were both designed to have a sharpened false edge below the handle. On the "Worker", we sharpen the edge as it is less than 1". On the "Police" we do not because the length of the false edge sharpened would classify the knife as a dagger and therefor be illegal to carry.

One can also use the sharpenedd false edge as a cutting edge by opening the knife just a lttle. Enough to clear the sharp false edge, then use the false edge to cut something like string or open a paper wrapper.

Sal --

Where does a 1" false edge constitute a dagger? Not California, so I'm guessing it's the state where it's manufactured.

Joe - we were reading dagger laws. Some written as "any double edged knife with a blade longer than 1" ,etc. We just figured making it the way we did, provided the option and didn't cause uneccesary complications for the ELU. We also realize that having a double edge when you don't want one can be hazardous to oneself.

Tim TTT,
You still have to give us the full scoop on your name! Do you/have you watched "South Park"? When I saw your name, I immediately thought of "Mr. Hanky, the talking Christmas Poo"!!! Hehehe! I'll have to admit, you get a "10" from me for using the name you've chosen, and the creative factor is worth a "10", too! Take care, man.

I never realized that there was such a variation in musical taste in these forums!
Anyone else have some unusual musical tates? If someone here is a Morbid Angel fan, I'm gonna pee my pants...
