Time for an update.

Thanx to our testers and many comments on the "Swick" design I would like to get more input.

(The "Swick" design is an refinement of the original SPOT design. Prompted by two forumites, that also tested concept models. The handle has been improved in ergos, but still uses the same basic shape. The blade is a 2.25" (2.125" on the original) warncliffe pattern).

We thank them for their efforts.

My current thought is to produce 500 pcs as an experiemental run. We would use the larger 23mm hole as used on the SPOT. We would use the same warncliffe shape as tested, but increase the length to 2.25" (57mm). We would use 4mm CPM-S30V, full flat grind, "stonewash" finish.

We could provide a "slip sheath", which would have mounting holes but no clip......or we could provide a clip, but cost goes up, depending on the type of clip.

I'd like to know if there is any interest?

I'd like to know sheath preferences?

I might also mention that there are other Swick design variations in the works. One is rescue oriented and inspired by a customer at the Blade show.

Please let me know what you think.

The entire "business chain" from; raw materials, manufacturing, marketing, selling, distributing, shipping, warrantees, insurance, credit, etc. ALL EXISTS to service the ELU (End Line User). Remove the ELU from the equation and the entire business chain falls like a house of cards. We all work for you!

Mr. Sal

I've been looking up the spot lately (require a user for my job).
A new version depending on when it comes available I'd gladly jump in.

I'm definitely in for one or two (or three). I like my VG-10/Micarta SPOT, but I always thought a "stabbier" blade (for lack of a more PC description) would be better.

Everything about it sounds great to me. The 23mm hole fits me fine and flat ground S30V is great. A SPOT style neck sheath is fine with me. Myself, I like the micarta slabs on the VG-10 SPOT, for extra grip (plus it looks cool), but since you're nearly doubling the thickness for the Swick, I'll probably get by without it. I can always dip it in some of that liquid rubber stuff if I need to.

Fully flat ground warncliffe in S30V sounds awesome (absolute favorite blade profile). I'd definitely buy one. I didn't particularly like the blade profile on the original one; the s-curved edge wasn't as versatile for my EDC uses as I'd thought, along with the sharpening.

Very much looking forward to this.

Sal,
As you know, I loved the original SPOT, and I love the SWICK even more. Although I am the proud owner of one of the test blades (thanks again), I will definitely buy one (or two) when they hit the market. I think the slip sheath with mounting holes is the way to go (keeps the cost down and can be carried in a multitude of way with a modicum of imagination). I'm looking forward to this!

I'm interested in one as well. The slightly greater length compared to the original Spot seems perfect, and a full flat grind is ideal. I'm still undecided about S30V versus VG-10, but I think I can live with S30V.

The sheath - well, I don't need a clip, I reckon. What's important to me is that the sheath is small and well made.

Hans

Sounds great to me; I've wanted a wharncliffe SPOT forever.

I'd like to see a minimal sheath that would allow for neck and belt carry. The sheath could have holes that would correspond to a large or mini tec lock. Most knife guys have a few of these around anyway.

Pretty soon you are going to find me on the street pushing a shopping cart full of Spyderco's! My checkbook needs a rest!

I think just holes to match a Tec-Loc would be fine. To echo what a couple of others have said, as small a sheath as is possible would be nice. More like the new Ronin sheath rather than the old one in styling if possible. One thing I disliked about the SPOT was the squareness and size of the sheath.

I concur with the others re: Tek-Lok compatibility. The sheath should be as skimpy as possible. A "Bikini" style. Or Thong even. Put me down for one, at least.

I concur. Pre drilled holes for tec lock compatability would be great.

I would be very interested in the Swick.

I don't think I would like a clip but rather prefer the neck sheath.

:D

I'd certainly add a SWICK to my collection.

I prefer Tech Lok spaced holes and No clip (to keep the cost down). I'm sure that many will utilize it as a Neck knife and thus a clip would not be necessary.

Thanks for soliciting the input.

Sal, I really like how the new swick is shaping up and I would be very interested in owning one if you did a limited run.

The spot never really jumped out at me with the s curved blade, but a wharncliff blade on the swick would be sweet.

As for the sheath I would also agree with some others who have requested holes that are small teklock compatible, but I would also hope that the sheath would be strong enough to be carried as a neck knife on occasion.

One request for the blade handle, if it doesnt have a spot to tie a paracord lanyard could you consider including that in the design?

Thanks

My favourite EDC since I got it has been the SPOT.

I would definitely be interested in a SWICK and would just like to echo what has been said before here.
a) Love the choice of steel, same size hole and blade shape.
b) neck sheath with holes spaced to accommodate smaller tech-lock would be great
c) cord wrapped around the hadle could enhance grip, my only concern with the original design

Thanks. Take care.

Hi Carl,

"Stonewash" finish is coarse tumble finish. The coarse tumble finish is used to remove burrs and sharp edges and then a follow up finish would be used for other types of finish such as a "shiny bright".

I do't know if it would be a "limited" run as much as a "test" run. If the concept goes over well, we would make more.

Sal,
Limited run, test run, whatever. Just keep us updated on when and where we will be able to get these, please! Be well!

I generally avoid that kind of finish. I suppose I could smooth it down myself.

How coarse is it compared to the brushed finish on the US-made Natives? My 440v native, which was hardly used at all and kept clean, had little rust spots. The s30v Native did not, although I was a little more careful about oiling it after the previous one.
