Swick (refined SPOT) update

Is the Rescue version blunt-tipped in H-1? I think that would make a sweet river/dive/extreme conditions knife.

One thing I don't like about serrated edges is how when I cut off the top of a bag of food stuffs, sometimes one or two tiny flakes of the bag will come off freely. This happens much more with tied off grocery bags (the top is all wrinkled together), but I hesistate to use a serrated edge to cut open food packaging because I fear getting a piece of the packaging in my food.
Spyderco's serrated blades have a section of plain edge near the tip about .5 to 1 inch long. If you use this part of the blade to open bags, you probably won't have any more flakes.

the first prototypes will be pointed. the reasoning behind this decision is so that materials, such a whitewater rafts, can be cut into. blunt tipped knives, such as crkt bear claw, offer no way of piercing such objects. this may be good for first year raft guides (so they can't pop their own rafts), but what happens if someone is trapped under a pinned raft? you have to be able to cut through the darn thing and you need a point to do that.

also, the prototypes will be made of s30v, but if it should ever go into production, it will be h-1 as mr. glesser and i have discussed.

i will be posting an extinsive review and demonstration of usage after i get the test pieces, but for now, i will say that it will be a swick handle with a serrated, inverted hawksbill blade. :eek:

A pointy serrated SWICK in H-1? Yummy!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by an inverted hawkbill blade though?

Just keeping up on the process - mine's still going strong.
Suggestions:
1) plain edge better for the shorter utility blade in my opinion;
2) small sheath with OPTIONAL (at USER'S expense) tec-lock, or neck cord (holes in sheath to accommodate either);
3) finish is perfect on the testers.

I totally agree with this note! :thumbup:

How will this new knife compare with the Emerson La Griffe?

Thanks. :)

basically, cut the blade off, flip it upside down, and stick it back on. it is an attempt to orient the blade to the handle ergonomics of how the knife is actually used.

Im definitely looking forward to get SWICK, great concept and (finally!) good steel (I miss that on Spot)... too bad i have to wait couple of months to get it :(

Oh man you bet. That is sweet! Just keep the handle the same as the spot. Offer it in warncliff and 'harpy' style.
keep up the good work...

Hope nobody get's upset by my resurrection of this thread. I just want to keep this knife in peoples thoughts and hopefully find out more about a possible release date. Be well! ;)

A few days ago Sal said on the Spyderco forum that they are making a batch of 500 as we speak! Can't wait either. Plain jane Kydex sheath with holes for a TecLoc

Don't know yet if it will get thru to the online dealers

sweet... im taking 5... no 10... gah! i hunger for the SWICK :)

Any updates on the SWICK front?
Has a batch of 500 been made?
Anyone heard from Sal on the status of the SWICK?

I have many life questions but none so important as these :)

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth. The SWICK concept knife Sal so graciously sent me a few months back for evaluation and testing is still going strong. This is truly a wonderful knife, and is the best neck knife/fixed EDC I've owned. From what I understand, they are in the rocess of producing them as you read this, but I'm not sure when they'll hit the market. If you do a search for SWICK, you can read some of the crazy cutting tests I put this blade through.
