Swiss Army Alox?

I'll take SAK for 200 Alox :-)

The Alox knives are much stronger than the standard SAK's. One of the best knives I have ever owned was an Alox Pioneer Harvester. I carried it at work for years and used the heck out of it, and it withstood the strains without a whimper. I lost it and haven't bought a replacement, but one of these days I'll go search out a new one. The Farmer is what I would get this time around.

Like most everybody on here, I'm a knife knut and have bought too many to be practicable; IF I were starting over with nothing, I would get an Alox Farmer, a Case yellow delrin trapper, and to satisfy the fancy id a nice stag handled Loveless/Herron styled hunting knife. Those three would handle anything I'd use a knife for. But who can stop at just three?! :D

When I was young and the earth was cooling I carried a Super Tinker and a Buck 110.

Nowadays I carry a slippy or two. Very rarely a SAK. They usually are carried in my bag or in the truck. I'm never without one close by. The ones that I do carry are the Alox types.

The one on the right was given to me by my friend in Switzerland.

It definitely does, too bad that victorinox doesn't have a wider range of products with them. They really do make a great and durable pocket knife that is actually pocketable. This pioneer may be the last pattern of knife I will need. The cadet seems nice but it feels like if I were to use the screw driver the knife would loose its shape.

sure alox make some of the greatest sak

I like the cellidor on the classic sized models over alox because of the tools. I have a Manager on my keys because of the tweezers and pen (and because both the knife and tweezers fold out away from the key ring). Because I have them on my Manager, I prefer alox for the larger models with this Electrician being the one I use the most. I did get a Secretary recently and that is super thin!!

Here's the Farmer collection. I couldn't find full collection pic though...

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but you folks got me to wanting to try an Alox handled SAK & I've always liked the blade selection on the Farmer,so I went and ordered one.
I went with silver so it won't show the wear too bad.
I also scored an Orange Alox Classic off the EX today thanks to Northridge88.
I'll see if I can live without the tweezers & toothpick for awhile.
Y'all are a baaaad influence.;)

Shown with my 30+ year old Champ,a newer Ranger, the Florists knife & the Alox I forgot I had,the Bakers Knife.
The Farmer has springs like a bear trap BTW:eek:and I really like the awl coming off the end vs the back side.

Alas and alack, I cannot give them up. I have looked at Alox covered knives dozens of times with my mouse hovering over the BUY button. But then I see the solid ends with no toothpick and no tweezers. And my mouse moves away. Tweezers are a nice-to-have. Toothpick is a gotta-have.

Tweezers will open most handcuffs as well. Gotta have tweezers!

Hmmm,do you speak from experience Grand High Mukba?(say it ain't so)

Weeeell, kind of. For future note, just make sure you know where the darn key is before any playing around, not just "I thought it was in the desk drawer'.

LOL! :D

Received my first Alox SAK - the Bantam - as a gift from ScruffUK the other day :)

I prefer them because of the simpler design, how sturdy they feel, and because I think they look better than the standard models. I have used a Bantam Alox, Farmer Alox and Pioneer Alox.

I do have to confess that although SAK's are low on my hit parade, my old Wenger SI is still carried now and then, when I need a bomb proof knife. I love the alox both for the more rugged construction, and the bonus that is is classy looking. The silver alox wears great, and looks great as well. It made me sad that Victorinox discontinued so much of the alox line.

Carl.

I had taken my Victorinox Manager off of my keychain last year because it was a little bulky. I usually have a pen with me and I keep a pair of the SAK tweezers in my wallet. I recently bought a SwissBianco Alox Rambler and added it to my keychain. It is much thinner than the Manager and it is lighter too. The Alox models use aluminum for the scales without liners and for the spacers while the Cellidor models have stainless steel liners under the plastic scales and stainless steel spacers which adds to the weight.

The Alox Rambler knife blade opens opposite the Classic, makes it a bit easier to open when attached to a key ring.

Love the Farmer.

BTW, Jack, I really like that Bantam. I think they should bring that one back out. A good little beer knife. :D
