Swiss army knife quality

As I go back and browse this thread, I am fiddling with a barely used Victorinox Sportsman II that I snagged for $6 shipped (again on that auction site). All of the tools are tight as can be. The blades were still factory sharp too..

This model was a part of their now discontinued "Economy" line which uses red nylon scales instead of the standard, shiny, plastic Cellidor scales that are on their regular models.

I actually like these 'cheaper' models better. These slightly textured scales just seem sturdier in the hand, and they don't feel as slippery when your hands are wet..

.

My point is, if money is tight, I'd pass on spending even $5 on a crappy Chinese-made knock-off. Especially when you consider all of the deals that are out there on used, Swiss-made Victorinox knives. Knives that were probably taken off some guy/gal (by the TSA) as they were passing through an airport.. ;)

SAK's are an obscene value for a knife and since almost all of them come with other tools how can you possibly go wrong. Buy the originals not the cheaper versions, they are worth it. Alox Cadets are my favorites, I have 4 colors, here is my favorite...
