Szaboinc "Battle Sickle" ???

That and that it's named the Felony Stop. :D

I'll take a TDI over that any day. In fact, I've been using mine quite a bit as a general cutting tool.

As far as offending sensibilities, or any disparaging comments about Szabo himself: The guy is over the top, and seems to like the attention. I know nothing about him or his knives other than what's on that website, but based on that, he's begging for attention--positive and negative.

Hopefully, he doesn't take himself too seriously, and the 'crazy over the top' knives are marketing tools as mentioned earlier in the thread. Sort of a Gwar of edged weapons and tools, if you will.

I agree, I have 2 TDI's. I carry one on ly liner belt under my duty belt. I made sure that I also got the trainer as well. Nice little knives for the possible "Oh Sh1t" gun grab. Added to the fact that the knife will be seized for evidence, all I'll be out of is $20.00. Though I will say I do like it, but not for $250.00 for an item that I purchased for $20.00.

I also agree that names can be problematic with these self defense tools.

Szabo and Perrin scream "BS experts" to me.

Anyone with even a smidgen of martial arts experience will tell you that some of their designs are less functional than a tire iron, pry bar, or 1in dowel rod....let alone a cutting implement.

All hype, no snipe.

HARSH comment, BS experts? I would hate to think you represent the knife community. I think they are more than the hype you point out them to be. Extensive martial arts training, US marines, French commandos, Keating on board... what else do you need for it not to be BS? You must be quite the Martial expert :jerkit:

Sorry, I didn't make it to the weapons....

I couldn't get past the red-haired guy with the freaky sunglasses!!! :barf:

J-Curd You are absolutley right! They are used car salesman. They have no idea what is going on. It's apparent you are on to these scam artists. Thanks for pointing this out to us.

The Battle Sickle is impractical. Me thinks this has been well established, and infact turned into a pile large pile of glue.

That being said...if someone wants to buy one for martial arts practice or display, then why the heck not? Maybe said individual knows more about a particular area of Martial Arts than any of us, or likes to study some kinda ancient martial arts, or perhaps was REALLY influenced by Children of The Corn....

If he were marketing it to housewives as a kitchen knife I could see how that would be unethical, but Laci is straight out stating it's intent and purpose, take it or leave it.

The bottom line being that if an individuals money or safety isn't involved we can probably manage without harsh judgements of the implement, the maker, or the consumer.

Good Lord! what's gonna happen if half these guys stumble upon a SASS Cowboy shoot or a Buckskinners meeting?

"Hey! you guys are idiots! yer full of crap! don't you know that blackpowders aren't used in modern combat!? I bet ya' couldn't even clear a bunker with one of them things! Those targets aren't even real! if those were real bad guys they'd move and shoot back! I bet your not even a real cowboy or trapper, huh? you probably even drive a car and work a day job ya' phony!!"

I think the point is that SASS doesnt give ad copy that makes people think they are saying that old west firearms are practical for modern combat. How many green recruits buy crap like this thinking that there is an actual purpose. Did you read all the add copy? This isnt aimed at a martial arts expert. Martial arts experts aernt impressed with talk of genetic mutations and bullcrap like that. A sickle and a tommahawk are about as close as night and day in the intended use and design. If there was anything tactical or usefull in term of martial arts or a specializefd attack prehaps that could have been discussed instead of the BS out of a bad comic. I have used hay bailing hooks, ice picks, meat hooks and sickles all for real world uses. This meshing of all of them serves no real purpose and is bs anyways. Its just a regular sickle with a barbed tip and bad angle of extention. Laci may be a good martial artist, but why try and sell this thing like its worth 800 bucks because its such a great weapon. Gime a break, if you want a expensive shelf queen call Mr. Gil Hibben, unlike this tripe you can resell Mr. Hibbens knives for what you paid or more.

I dunno. I'd run pretty fast if anyone ever shook one of those things at me.

I doubt many green recruits buy something like that thinking there is an actual purpose. Most I've known have a hard time parting with $80 for a knife, much less $800. I'm not sure whether an expert martial artist would be impressed with talk of "genetic mutations and crap like that" or not. I've never met 'em all. Don't know if it's worth $800 either. It's not to me, but maybe it would be to someone else? Not really sure if it's a great weapon or not, all I've done is look at the picture and read the short ad. I haven't contacted Laci for clarification or philosophy behind the design. Perhaps someone has, and can shed a little more light on it for us.

Maybe we should pass a law or let the government determine which knives are useful and which ones aren't? maybe even something about fair consumer market price them.....
