Always nice to see that Scratted Bone Ancient, Jack. Just the reminder I need to put mine in my pocket!

Thanks for posting the Scratted Ancient, Jack. And I am glad you enjoy looking at the NYK!

Somewhere near the centennial mark a smooth bone Graef & Schmidt Bare head Jack Knifeworks that I rescued and refurbished. It was covered in latex paint with the blades stuck closed. When I finally got the primary blade open it looked like the previous owner used the blade to open paint cans. The main spear was scalloped from the chips that were missin' from openin' cans. I shoulda taken before and after pics so you could appreciate how neglected it was and how well the restoration went.

There's a little chip missin' at the rear of the scale on the mark side and if you look really close you can still see specks of the white paint underneath that I couldn't reach without removin' the scale on that side so I left it as is and the knife is a user with lots of character, just look at the years of use accumulated on the smooth bone scales. The bone feels warm to the touch and has been stressfully rubbed till it feels as smooth as glass. :)

My most recent bone handled purchase was an unusual one for me, in that it was smooth bone. I much prefer jigging, or at least some texture, as on GEC's primitive bone. But this one has a great color of autumn gold, and is just the right size at 3⅞" closed.
