Stamping the makers mark on 103 before they go off to heat treat:

Not a pile but I have whittled my choice, on most days, to one of these.
Of course there's always another slipjoint and either an OHO or fixed blade.

Peregrin,

those are remarkable. Who made them?

eta - enlarged on the laptop and was able to read the makers’ marks. Beautiful collection.

If ya break the 100 mark the cost for heat treat reduces drastically. Certainly worthwhile to send big batches.
Makes sense! May as well take advantage of price breaks when possible.
At least that's the Costco/Sam's Club marketing philosophy. The larger the purchase the less the cost.
I wonder, if someone were to buy like a train load of... let's say T-Paper, or a whole boat load of... socks at what quantity would they become free. 🤪

Have a buddy who has a degree in accounting. He followed me around one time when I was doing my own heat treat. He was writing down the costs of everything and came up with a cost per knife for me doing my own heat treating. This did NOT include time for straightening warped blades and many do. Chasing warp can be very time consuming. I was also limited to steels I could work with. Even way back then my cost was over 3x the cost per blade to send it out for HT. But the big reason? Consistency, consistency, consistency. I often get the phone call. Hey ya made me a knife and I want one just like it for my brother, son, grandfather, friend, wife, guy that works for me, etc. Well I can make him one just like it. Consistency, consistency, consistency. And now ya know why I send blades out for HT.

Lots of makers get consistent heat treat doing it in-shop, but that’s not doing it 100/batch. Some do it 1 at a time :)

That's a regular old flotilla!

More canoes than most countries' navies!

I love the canoe pattern.

Mine sink when put in water, though.
Thanks for the kind words!:cool::thumbsup:
My canoes are not really seaworthy either, and I'm not eager to buy a bunch of canoes so my canoe pattern knives can float!
