I'm not a big fan of wooden scales, but I have to say yours always come out looking great! Heck, I even bought one from you a while back... Your shields are looking terrific these days, too.

Very clean , good looking knife Todd! Nice to see shields in your knives. Really gives them a finished look! Going to make someone very happy.

I'm sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but is the shield used for putting your initials on it or something? or just decoration or both?

Thanks

Not a dumb question at all.
The main purpose I think was for like you said BOTH, then after a while,
they were more for decoration.
Old times a guy probabaly only had one knife, and he would have his initials put on it.
NOW days I think it's a test, a chalenge if you want, for the maker HOW WELL he can inlay it. :D
BUT still for decoration purposes.

Thanks! for the replies EVERYONE, I do appreciate them.

shields: "a challenge for the maker, how well he can inlay it". well i have my #339 in hand and rubbing my thumb over the smooth ironwood scales and onto and over the shield, i cannot feel either a rise or depression.
so, i think you've got this "challenge" mastered. so Todd you need a new challenge; how about a nice 3 blade sowbelly in ivory ? roland

another beauty! one of these days, when i'm feeling particularly prosperous, i'm gonna buy one

Both knives are sweet. nice tight joints and clean lines. great lookers!
BTW Your name imprint looks great as well. Is that etched or stamped?
