Tabled Out!

Great stuff, as always, Jack! I particularly like this one.

It is a bit of a shame about the broken pen blade, but that still seems like a perfectly useable knife. As-is, that pen blade might at least be good for cutting tape and opening packages (which is what I use a small secondary pen for most of the time anyways).

I also really like the "OIL THE JOINTS" stamps on those Burma knives.

Thanks a lot Barrett, I don't think there's much I can do to reshape that blade, so I'll probably just live with it. Think I got a bargain for £2! ;) :)

I don’t know what happened to ruin the blade of this 1945 Harrison Fisher Burma Knife, looks like a series of electricians blew themselves up with it, or someone hacked through a lot of barbed wire.
I have seen similar damage caused by persons attempting to scrape corrosion from car battery terminals. Sparks and strong language!

I bet! No insulation on an all-stainless knife either!

In the incident I witnessed, the knife (which had scales) was released very close to immediately. I have a little Case stockman that had similar damage (but only on spot, not three) on the spey blade that I reshaped. The area around the damage seemed to be harder than the rest of the blade. I wonder if the three spots of damage on the Harrison Fisher knife were the result of a single extended contact, or a sign of someone who just would not learn....

Thanks for your heroic efforts in posting this thread, Jack!!
And thanks for finding this three-legged "scoop" !
:D

I enjoyed this thread very much. I think I need to pick up one of those ss British Army knives with the marlin spike now.

Hey Jack The first package you ever sent me contained a ring knife just like the second one you have posted on page one. I had never saw one before and had to ask you about it. I still carry that little knife a lot because I think it is very cool and it takes a mean edge.

Jack I just LOVE your Table Threads, I hope you have that Table sensibly placed over your Floor Joists? :D

Couple of old bread knives.

One by Lockwood Brothers, with the Firth-Brearley stamp, achieved after Harry Brearley, the inventor of stainless steel, managed to get Firth’s to comply with their contractual obligations, which they did only after a protracted fight, and only briefly. It’s a story worth reading.

Anyone who read my Wizard’s Quest series may possibly remember the cut-down Nutbrown Utility Knife – Meako will I’m sure! Well, the other breadknife is by Mr Nutbrown :)

Picked these up at a ‘car-boot sale’ (you may have to look that up ;) ) last weekend, from a guy who makes them for a hobby.
You're talking about the bottle opener that the guy males right ? Because I've had both of those cheap ammo knives. They were certainly a fun cheap novelty for 3$.

Thanks Charlie, something to put in your tea-caddy! ;) I'll put it on my Charlie pile :D

Thank you, Donn showed a nice contemporary version in the EDC thread yesterday - http://www.bladeforums.com/threads/...ya-totin-today.547127/page-4951#post-17250800

I always enjoy reading these posts!

Thanks Ernie

That's nice to hear Randy, they are cool little knives I think :)

Thanks pal, thinking about it occasionally causes me to lose sleep! :D

You said you poked up those bullet items up from a guy who makes the right ? I was wondering if you were talking about just the bottle opener on the 2 novelty knives as well, because I've seen someone at a flea market selling them claiming he made them.

I have a bolstered mop 2.5" long from Lafayette/Cutlery Co/Germany that I thought was exactly like the one in post #9, but it has no concavities at the bolster-ends.

Sorry, I wasn't sure what you were referring to :) Yeah, the guy had a whole pile of bullet stuff, in different calibres, pens, toothpick-holders, etc. He said he made them from kits. They were about the same price. Probably the same thing, I've certainly seen similar novelty knives before

One of the best hauls ever.

Cheers mate

I think it could very well be German Jer, I have a few others which are similar too

Nice haul Jack! Thanks for taking the time to share it! I too agree that one blade ran into some juice! I have done it myself with a wrench/spanner. Its kinda self corrective behaviour for the most part.

The last WIP/tutorial I did over at Sheaths and Such was after the software change: http://www.bladeforums.com/threads/lets-make-a-folding-knife-sheath-by-special-request.1492847/

At that time I had to post less than 20 pics and then make a comment with more pics on the post to finish it up. Has it changed again? What kind of orblems were you having?

Thanks a lot Dave :)

Hey, that's a nice thread there  I had expected to be able to post less than 20 pics, and I made the initial post, but it posted with lots of blue 'ink' and superfluous ''s. Then when I tried to edit it, I couldn't because the post was too long supposedly. I tried re-posting shorter and shorter sections, but I could only post a small amount of text and pics without getting an error warning saying my post was too long. In each case, I had to re-edit the post 2 or 3 times because random spaces were appearing, more blue 'ink', etc. The changes I made with edit didn't always 'take'. It was a thoroughly frustrating process :( I don't know what the problem was, but it certainly wasn't fun :( Do you upload your pics directly Dave, or use an image host (eg Photobucket, Imgur)?

Edit - Darn it! Gone blue again! maybe it's my use of ""?

Second edit - Well it seems if you include u-r-l in your post, it removes that, and turns the rest blue! Hope you can make sense of my post with the words removed Dave

I noticed this thread last night, but waited for my morning coffee to give it a proper look. Thanks Jack for sticking with it through the aggravation. The content was as fun and informative to behold as always, even if posted in a different format.
