The Fenix L1P is a "tactical" light, which can probably be best compared to the SureFire E1L tac light. The Fenix has seen a lot of attention from flashlight aficionados, who appreciate the high quality from a AA power source, instead of the much more expensive and harder to find 123s.

L1P:
about 45 lumens
>Reverse clicky pushbutton switch
>LED
>1 AA battery
>about 2 hrs FULL brightness, plus about another 2 hrs reduced output
>1.45 oz
>3.61x.79"
>belt pouch and lanyard

E1L:
about 25 lumens
>"Tactical" pushbutton switch
>LED
>1 123 battery
>about 1 hour FULL brightness, plus about 3 hrs reduced outpout
>2.6 oz
>3.3" length
>clip
$80-100

A small, very bright and tough light is probably one of the most important tools defensive-minded people can have. Unlike something like a firearm, besides being useful in a life and death situation, a light will see weekly, and sometimes daily use.

SureFire makes great lights, but the L1P is brighter, lasts longer, and TAKES AA BATTERIES. It is longer but slimmer, and weighs less. They are currently on sale for $36.95, shipped, from Fenix Store.com.

Sounds interessting.

I've got a SF E2e; no need for more flashlights. Sits in my jacket all the time, and works fine.

I'm wondering though how accurate the light output numbers are? My E2e has 2 123 batteries at 3 Volts each and an output of 50 lumens. For about one hour. I am curious how they manage to get about the same number of lumens for two hours with one AA battery at 1.5V ?

regards, Keno

Chip design...they no longer are simply a hot wire sitting directly on top of a battery.

Great price...

Just did some research, but didn't come up with much. It seems the 45lumens are a bit questionable though, while the run-time was pretty much verified [tested 1hr 51 minutes w/ regular AA batteries].

regards, Keno

Edit: It seems that it at least very debatable if the fenix is brighter - output is at about 26lumens, while the surefire is likely to be higher and brighter than that. 123 battery after all - which doesn't change the fact that the fenix is a really good bang for the buck though ;)

Keno,

Your E2 is an incandescent. LEDs are brighter for longer, for the same energy.

There's the L1, which is not as powerful, and there's the L1P, which is brighter. This is the P series.

Here is one thread about the L1P. www.CandlePowerForums.com is a great place to go for flashlight and battery info.

I have no personal stake here, Keno: I have 3, repeat, 3 SureFires (E2, L4, A2), and as of yet, no Fenix lights (though I plan to remedy that as soon as possible). I am only trying to notify my fellow members of an incredible and useful deal. I'm not really sure what or why you're arguing.

The link you show does not appear to show the SureFire as brighter; in fact, the Fenix appears to have almost the same intensity at the "hot spot", while managing to have a much wider spill area. In other words, at the distance shown, the SureFire has a tighter beam, while the Fenix has a more "floody" beam, with about 2/3 more useable light thrown in peripheral areas. This is a known characteristic of the E1s, with an optional head sold by SureFire to convert the beam to a wider, though shorter-ranged, more "floody" type.

The Fenix L1P is a very nice light  and The Fenix Store is run by a stand up member of CPF; you will get great service.

The manufacturer's specs seem to be a little inflated (as all seem to be). Please see the reviews at http://www.flashlightreviews.com/index1.html

The Fenix is close in preformance to the Nuwaii QIII. It has more throw, but less spill. The E2 puts out more light than either of the LEDs.

I carry the QIII with me daily. The E2 used to be the EDC carry, but the QIII gives plenty of light on one CR123 vice the E2's two.
The L1P was given to a friend and will be replaced by another (or a L2P) as it was very nice for lots of indoor tasks and in a great (AA) form factor.

There are some beamshots at the bottom of this page of the L1p and the QIII: http://gbrannon.bizhat.com/sears.htm

Yo John,
I am digging that L1P light...Just a question...Is it worth the extra money versus a Brinkman's maxfire?? I have a Brinkman's and it is sweet but i would like something more compact for belt carry

Thanks John:) and yes, the QIII will run the rechargeable 3.7v batteries (and be a lot brighter to boot!).
Regards,
Greg

Dave,

I think Greg is more suited to answer that than I am. I would guess that the L1(/P) is more suited to pocket carry. I finally got a red-modded Inova X1 light yesterday, which I believe is almost exactly the same size as the L1.

I've got it in the sheath it came with, but it will easily go in my pockets. Hell, I could carry 3 or 4 (along with regularly carried keys, wallet, knife, pens, etc.) before they became cumbersome...

Love my Nuwaii QIII. Burns up a battery fast, but what a ride.... and SureFire sells the batteries cheap.

Got Inova X5 and X1 (I think) and some others, but carry the Nuwaii.

Funny, it's so cheap. Being a flashaholic is worthwhile. My little Mag Lites all broke anyways, and the big ones are eclipsed by these little performers.

Oh yeah, also the Stylus and a Browning thingie with 3 diff color LEDS. Neat.

Will look into the Fenix, John. You steered me right with the Swamp Rats. Got a couple... People wait MONTHS and MONTHS for those knives. Shark skills pay off in other endeavors.

The L1P comes with a nice sheath. The early version had a flap and was a spandex type fit, very difficult to return the light one handed...at least for me. The new version is open ended, but a more user friendly design IMO. I always carried mine in a rear pocket next to my wallet. The switch is recessed some which I like as the E2 gave me the "hot seat" more than once:eek:

Greg

I have the Q-3 and love it.. it has a TWOJ (bright white) bin luxeon led in it.. and I drive it with R123's that top off at 4.2 volts.. I got 3 r123's plus a Nano charger and I have been running it like this for about a year now and she is still going stong.. It gets pretty hot in the hand but the light output is amazing for a light this size.. or a big light for that matter..
I polished the inner bezel on mine..

Black bear posted this pic on THR. He said he's going to L1P and LOP (1 AAA Fenix- twist activated) as his EDCs.

Nice photo:thumbup:
There are some really nice lights out there in the sub $50 range and the deal John started this thread with is the best price I've ever seen for the Fenix.

If you look thru the site you will notice that they will soon have some CR123 and CR2 bodies that will fit on the L2P head. These will reduce it's footprint a lot. The L2P head delivers better regulation and is slighly brighter than the L1P. 4sevens (owner of the Fenix Store) had some L2P heads on L1P bodies for sale recently and may have some more in the future.

Back to the Fenix deal; I'd be ordering one if I hadn't signed on for on of these.

Regards,
Greg

What Jet combo are you getting? Those look pretty killer.. I just skimmed the thread .. are there anymore availble?

Thanks John. I just ordered one! I've been looking at lights recently and was hoping to find something that ran on AA's, just for convenience.

Looks like a nice light. I'll post back here once it arrives.
