Tactical pants, bags, wallets.....seriously???

I think the word "tactical" has been used so much to describe gear that it has lost all meaning. You can get tactical toothpicks, tactical toiletry bags, tactical phone cases, tactical computer bags, tactical beads, etc. So I guess that after you clean your tactical teeth, you will tactically video chat with the enemy and exchange tactical jewelry-making tips?

Don't forget tactical make up to wear with your tactical Beard. Years ago a buddy went to gun site school when Cooper was still around there.

When we would go to a steel plate shoot after that he would try to inconspicuously side out this little make-up round he borrowed from his girlfriend and pat his cheeks down with it so he didn't get glare off of cheeks when he sighted in on the front site. As soon as I would see the makeup tin in his hand I would just start chuckling at him.
That always brought a Shut it Laurence! which made me LOL!

My favorite pants are 5.11, really great pants. I went bouldering in them, most of my buddies had little holes in their jeans from sliding down rocks, and my favorite pair of gloves (IronClads, if anybody was wondering) were worn full of holes. My pants were incredibly dirty, but that was it. I like good quality tactical gear, but the cheap stuff just pisses me off.

You would think that, but I have a neighbor... She knows things... things only a sticky beek no good spying neighbor would know... She aint shy ringing me up to talk about anything going on my farm... so no.. dont think I will do the whole Spartan 300 in the cape and underwear thing. :)

I'd consider that a very good reason to make like the Spartans. Messing with nosy neighbor is fun!

The best cargo-type pants I've worn are made by Arborwear. Tough as nails and they're synthetic so they'll dry quickly. My favorite outdoor pants, and they don't really look "tactical" at all.

I think sometimes there's an issue with convergence of use.

For instance, my daypack (can easily become an overnight pack with nice weather) is jut my old backpack. I've had it for 10 years or so, it's been through hiking, globetrotting, college (books, laptops, groceries, beer. mostly beer. it can fit two 6 packs) etc. It's not terribly comfy or well designed but it does the trick and it's sturdy as hell (it's from Columbia. I never thought it would last this long). Lately I've been looking for an upgrade.

I own some "tech" or "lightweight" or whatever you want to call it stuff i use for backpacking, longer hikes, multiday trips etc but i've been looking for a real good daypack/overnight pack that's as sturdy as my current bag, but better designed and more comfortable.

I feel I have 3 options:

Tech. I can get a Gregory or a Kelty, and they have everything I need as far as comfort and design. However, I doubt their constitution, especially with respect to my 10 year old school backpack that doesn't show any signs of wear.

Surplus. I can get some swiss mountain bag for pretty cheap. They're built like tanks. Unfortunately these systems tend to be heavy and really uncomfortable.

Tacticool. Sturdy, well built (depending on brand), well designed, comfortable. I don't really need MOLLE attachments or whatever the latest TACTACDAPADTAC camo thing is.

I wish there were something that was somewhere in between option 1 and 3. Maybe ease up on the bright colours and ultralight construction of the Kelty and Gregory and relax a bit on the military spec of the Maxpeds and 5.11.

But that doesn't seem to exist and I'm at a bit of an impasse.

Carhartt cargo pants for me. These are for getting dirty, working in the yard or garage, or just plain loafing. Tough as all get out! Just be sure to buy one size up.
