"Tactical" styled knife

My ZT 550 doesn't need any wrist action, so maybe all the manuals you have had just suck. Benchmade might have some stuff you want. I'm also gonna tell my opinions on tantos: I hate them. They are not good at cutting tasks, which is what you will eventually end up using your knife for the most. The only advantage a tanto gives in penetration will be for piercing body armor, so there is really no reason to get it unless you are in combat and stabbing people wearing body armor. Just my opinion, which probably will not change your mind
he's probably pushing the thumbstud out to the side instead of forward. I remember handing a coworker my knife after he saw me flick mine out and proceeded to push the stud to the side and use his wrist to flick it out the rest of the way.

If you're on a really tight budget since you're saving for your vacation, you might have to compromise a bit on your requirements. For example, Cold Steel offers several knives that fit the "tough tactical folder" bill, but they aren't assisted opening. Some have thumb disks that work just like an Emerson wave, but those models are over your blae length limit and don't have tanto blades.

If you can get past the lack of AO, I think you'd be very happy with a Code 4, Recon 1 or Voyager. All three lines have models with combo edge tanto blades. The blade on the Code 4 is 3 1/2", while the other two have 4" blades. Handle material is aluminum (Code 4), G-10 (Recon-1) and Grivory which is similar to FRN (Voyager). All use the Tri-Ad lock. The Recon 1 is the most expensive of the bunch at around $75, the Code 4 follows at $60 and the Voyager is, in my opinion, quite a bargain at under $50.

I've got a couple of plain edge clip point XL Voyagers, and I'm very happy with them.

That recon looks nice. I will look i to that one also.

I am in no rush to get it. The vacation thing will limit my money till the end of the month. Then i will pick up a knife or two.

The 0700 is a good blade.....unless you cut cardboard often. It doesn't do that well.

Don't cut too much cardboard. The little bit I do the tanto I have works fine. If I had to cut more I would get something else.

If you can manage without the AO, I'd also recommend an Emerson. Either a CQC7 or a Roadhouse sounds like what you'd want.

I own a CRKT Hissatsu myself and I love the knife, but the edge is very thick, which makes it a nice sturdy blade, but not optimal for nice smooth cutting. The tip of that knife is also extremely narrow, which is good for sticking into soft materials, but perhaps a bit prone to breaking against harder ones. The Hissatsu does have AO, but I really didn't like it on that knife. The spring was extremely tight and actually made it harder and slower to open the knife rather than the other way around. I ended up removing the AO spring (very easily done) and the knife still flies open, just from a nudge of the thumb and slight flick of the wrist.

Emerson Roadhouse or the CQC-15. Love them both. Black option. Tactical. Waved. They are pricey, but I believe in them wholeheartedly. I would like to see a video of somebody opening their knife faster. I'm not saying it can't happen (my Emerson fandom hasn't made me a fool), but I would like to see it.
