Hey Guys,

I sold a Ratweiler to TacticalSteel by the name of Henk Iverson. I got the money through paypal and mailed the knife. He claimed with PayPal that I did a fraud transaction and now Paypal wants $280 of my money back, because they refunded his money. He has a website called Tactical Solutions based in Africa and Lake Zurich Illinois. I check the tracking number via USPS and it said that the knife was delivered. I am major pissed. Somebody kick this guy off the net.

As a seller PayPal sucks from all the horror stories I've heard. You should pursue PayPal w/copies of email's between you and the buyer and protest.

Is "TacticalSteel by the name of Henk Iverson" the same as tacticalsteel who belongs to Bladeforums?

Might not be; with >70,000 members we're bound to have somebody using just about any name having to do with knives....

P.S. Seems the Bladeforums tacticalsteel is also named Henk. That would be a bit of a coincidence....

What's a fraud transaction? What is the buyer & Paypal actually claiming?
In anycase, I recommend when sending a big item to not only insure the parcel, but send restricted delivery. This way it can only be signed and delivered to the buyer when he shows his I.D..Can't claim then he didn't take delivery of the knife.Only ship to confirmed addresses, unless they have a good rep.Ya, Paypal sucks when stuff like this happens.

He has my money and my favorite Swamp Rat. I'm trying to pursue him through the Postal Service and PayPal. I'll send them the email transaction and the proof of delivery. He tried not to leave a trail on the forum by emailing me. Those guys are screwing us honest folk out of our hard earned cash.

Paypal can do some kooky things.

We were robbed of about $60 once from a customer in Germany. They paid by paypal, the payment 'confirmed' and we sent the item.

About 3 weeks later, paypal took the money back. It turns out this scumbag somehow defrauded their bank. Their bank took the money from paypal and paypal took it from us. (Their seller protection policy, when studied closely is very close to worthless, BTW.)
We do a lot of business through paypal, and that's the only incident of really being ripped off.

I would not use paypal for a large sum of money for overseas transaction EVER. You have ZERO protection, no matter what they tell you. They'll tell you you're protected this way and that, but when something happens, all these safeguards and assurances simply seem to vanish.

Better to use VISA (and not Visa through Paypal) for overseas transactions.--In my experience, credit card companies usually have much better fraud protection and better customer support.

This is why I don't use paypal in my transactions. It's more of a hassle I realize, to have somebody go and get a money order but I've never had my bank refuse to cash one or had them come back to me and say it was fraudulent. Maybe I’m lucky.
I’ve lost a few sells and buys because of that policy but….

I can live with that.

if I may add, a safeguard for the recepiant of paypal is to have your funds transferred to your bank account.
Remember...
it can take 3-4 days for you monies to be processed and deposited into your Bank account

Hey Scott, you should take all the PP papers over to the USPO and start an investigation for possible mail fraud. He says he didn't get it, well who did? If he falsified the claim let the PO chase him down and was it insured?
anyway I hope it helps, things like this just $uck!!

Man, I really hope you get your money back. I hope the thief has an accident with his stolen goods

BTW, I'm a Canadian, and I mostly deal with American sellers and American currency. I opened a USD account here in Canada, and ordered a bunch of cheques. My preferred method of payment is to mail a personal cheque and wait for it to clear. It takes a bit longer, but I pay less in fees.

Henk got back to me. I don't think it's cool that I quote him without his permission, but I will say he seems mystified by the whole situation, and he says he'll sort it all out.

Guyon, you are a class act to step in and help out. I hope this gets resolved quickly.
