Tacticlol Knives II: The Return of Ridiculous

So.....

Having some skill with graphic design, I decided to have a rip at drawing R Rockwelledge75 's idea.

The plan was to use features from both, while trying to avoid simply smashing the two designs together.

Execution-wise, I'm quite pleased with how well I was able to find a "compromise" that captures the design language of both.

If Crag wants to try this, I'm not going to ask anybody for any compensation if they want to make something based on the drawing. The graph paper is quarter inch squares, so you could size it right, print it out, and grind from the template. I have no idea how those two convex surfaces at the tip of the blade meet.

You are a very good drawer, but that's not what I had in mind. Ha
My design style is bland, empty, and boring..... Yours is a little Busy for me. :D

I would have to make lots of changes. But again, very good sketch. I can/do appreciate That.

My steel is at the heat treater still, so I might not have as descriptive pictures, just profiles. I got 2 blanks that are close. -for Me

It's Intresting for what the definitive features are..... Is the Hole important?

I don't have That on my fixed blade design. :/

I don't have That on my fixed blade design. :/

I mean... The importance of any hole is highly dependent on context, and that's all I have to say about the subject!

In this case, the "speed hole" is one the defining characteristics of any "tactktical" knife, and they add +3 to the "sharpness" stat.

Yeah, the whole design is very busy, you're right. I too, follow the advice of Antione de Saint-Exupery: "perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." And brother, this thing has a lot left to take away!

I'm just seeing This now, and I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit this..... but an upcoming design of mine is "kinda" a mix between these two...... Ugh. :/
(without me seeing or being influenced by Either)

Your taste in knives is very differnt than mine, so now I'm a bit nervous..... 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
*joking, sort of. ;)
Show me your design, I might just buy it from you, unless of course you're already making it for someone else.

Now that is a lovely piece of work, I honestly don't think I could have drawn it any better my self, in fact I know I couldn't have.

Thanks a lot for doing this and offering the design for free, I might just use it in the future!

You could take away features, but that's not the point, this is the ridicules knife thread, so the point is to share ideas of completely out there and radical design concepts, and I for one like some of that stuff. Not saying I'd want all of my knives to look crazy like this mind you, and any feature that would definitively create a weakness in the blade I'd probably discard because I'm no fan of wallhangers or knives that just are forever show pieces on a shelf, but sometimes truly unique custom shapes and features is exactly what some are looking for to liven up their collection.

Having anticipated that there might be an opportunity for a "cleaner" version, I drew a second one, last night. Figured I would wait and see what people thought. Used the same sheet, because it was easier to just lift the dimensions.

Same deal, drawing's free to use for anybody who wants it: tantos and harpoon grinds aren't my thing, I just did this to see if I could.

I'll stick with the more ridicules design for the novelty of it, though I might do away with the hole if I ever had it made. I'm sure some would like the top one though. Good work.

I think of this thread every time I run across a completely useless, non-functional feature on a knife added just to make it look cool.....kind of like an opening hole on a fixed blade.

For what I like, I think the top is better, but I'm sure the bottom would be popular too.

I opening myself up to judgement now too....
These two blades are a result from a number of months ago when all the joexxx drama was happening, and I was wondering what kind of knife would I do in that situation..... Something that can survive some abuse. I won't give too much away just yet, but these are at my specialty heat treater

I normally like to make thin, high performance blades, so this is a big departure for me.

I know these are bland compared to many designs here, but because of their beefiness, they seem pretty ridiculous to Me, and I look forward to grinding them.

even though they look kind of bland right now, it wouldn't take to much effort to turn it into something that closly resembles shorttime's 2nd, more toned down drawing. Unfortunately these are made from A8 and I think if I were to have a blade of this size and thickness made I'd want it in s90v, 10v, or maybe magnacut if it was heated treated to 64hrc, the only time I'd consider a more tough steel for thicker blade like this is if I'd want them to have some prying power/ ability, but then I wouldn't be putting a Tanto point on it.

To give you an idea of what they might look like once ground, some possibilities.

Searching for A8 Modified yields at least one result saying it's been used for wood chipper blades! So, personally, I'm hoping for some convex zero bevel chisel grinds, followed by "performance testing"!

If you think that little tanto design is ridiculous, you should see the... thing... I sketched up a few couple years ago in the style of some of Todd Begg's wilder work.

Oh I know it can get alot more ridicules, but there does come a point where you're getting very little to no return on value for extra features added, and as I said before if the extra features start impacting the strength of the blade and creating major weak points I'm just not interested.

Cool and flashy but functional is my moto with these things, just my take, people can do whatever they want though haha.

Pretty cool..... Nice work on that design!👌

here you go, want to get nutz with this stuff we'll get nutz! 😁

I was hoping somebody would give me even the thinnest excuse to post this! I drew it, 'pecifically for this thread, but I guess the link broke when I got "paywalled" out of my photosuckit account.

I think I was able to include at least one example of every tactical feature on the market.
